Looking for one
Hello
My search for a van continues... I'm now looking at a 2013 Peugeot Boxer PVC. Mileage at 180k. I've checked MOT history and it's all very good. Used to be an ambo apparently which as I understand it, is good from maintenance side of things but bad as they leave the engines running a lot? He said its got a Mk7 Ford Transit type engine.
Would anyone consider such high mileage? It's cheap at £10.5k so i could budget that it might need a new engine... or is that a silly idea? My max budget is £15k . I've not messaged the guy yet, but i can ask about service history and whether it's had a new gear box or clutch

There's loads of helpful info on the internet about how to check out an engine. If it had been well maintained and showed no signs of leaks and odd noises, it wouldn't put me off.

Always best to take a mate, as two sets of eyes and ears are better than one.

Good luck.

If it is a Mk 7 Ford Transit it will have the 2.2 lite Duratorq engine which is basically a sound unit same as in my 2007 Hobby T500. But that is a mighty high mileage so there is bound to be component wear.

Our x ambulance has done 280000 but had to have anew gearbox last year in France , otherwise you wouldn't know it from new.
Edit ours is a Renault but I suppose the maintenance is the same.

Do you mind me asking how much the new gearbox was?

I'd pay for a pre purchase inspection tbh. I can do basic checks but that's about it

A lot have had replacement engines and other major components it might not have as many miles on the engine as you think. I think it would put a lot of people off so maybe there's some negotiation on price. At the price your looking at I think it's unlikely you will find anything that's perfect in every way.

It came to four grand altogether with a new clutch as well but you have to remember it was in France and they sort of had me over a barrel.

We paid about that on a ford galaxy years ago in the UK I don't think it's way overpriced

No I was very dubious at the time and it was well documented on here at the time. But I have to say they really made a good job of it.

I think that is a lot of money and personally would not consider it. Just a quick browse through eBay will turn up a Ducato or Ford even the Mk8 for less money and with less mileage. It is true that ambulances are well maintained but do you have any proof of the repairs that have been done to it in writing?
