Auto-Trail
Good evening from the South Coast.

Really pleased to have found this Forum as my good lady and myself have very recently put a deposit on a 21plate Auto Trail V-Line 635 SE.
For various reasons we can’t complete the purchase until the end of September, but it’s there waiting for us now.

I’m afraid I’ll have a load of questions, most of which will probably have been asked before and I’ve not used the search facility well enough.
I’m quite used to a lot of Motorhome type systems having had boats for many years, and I also keep myself occupied at times rebuilding motorcycles and Land Rovers, so I’m technically quite competent.

Our Priority will be to add a Towbar and upgrade the house battery from what sounds like a woefully inadequate standard 75Ah.
I need to get my head around the EC176 Power supply/Control unit and will post some specific questions.

I promise I will try to contribute something useful rather than simply sponge off the collective knowledge.

Welcome. Ask away, always someone with the answer. Just keep your sense of humour. Have a look around the forum, especially the Resources.

Welcome.

All I suggest is try search.

If no luck then ask but not five at a time as we all then get lost answering the different bits 👍

Welcome, The 75 ah is not very big and in all likelihood need to be upped.

Before you do so, in my opinion, you ought to try to work out how you will use your motorhome. If you are only going onto campsites and plugging into electricity, then its not worth it (unless the battery is shot)
Should you not plug in then try to work out what you will use, lights and tv, or cooking on electric, charging bikes, coffee machine and then trying to work out how much of that you will use, then how you are going to replenish that electricity (solar) and whether you are going abroad for a time will come the question of gas and heating (if off campsites)

Try to answer those questions for yourself and your style of using a motorhome will get you more reasonable answers to your questions

Enjoy

Greetings. Congrats on the new van, sounds like you may ‘need’ (want?) a lithium battery in your life…

Thanks All for the nice welcome.

We'll definitely need to increase Battery capacity as we don't want to be reliant on plugging in at Campsites.
And yes, Lithium or another newer technology is definitely on the agenda.

I'll post something more specific in the right place on the forum when I've found some better info on the EC176 and digested it so I know our limits.

We've not decided on a name for the van yet, but it will probably be James, as in 'The Big Red engine from Thomas the Tank Engine.
Most of our cars have been named after characters from the series.
For example my Blue Discovery is called Gordon.

Can thoroughly recommend Offgrid Power Solutions for your lithium battery upgrade. Speak to nigelivy or RogerIvy for unbiased advice about what you have and what you might need.
