Hi everyone, looking to buy first motorhome , will 30k be enough

Welcome. We've got a Swift Firebrand 2.8. The only drawback is changing the cam belt every five years and only has two seat belts.. Firebrands were made by Swift for Discover Leisure who then went out of business a few years later. Ours is like a Swift 590 but the habitation area is higher spec, more cupboards and other extras. ours is 2007. We bought it for £32,000 brand new and can sell it for around £23,000 according to a dealer.
It stands around for about six months a year but we take it out for a 100 mile run every three months or so. Hardly ever given us any trouble. Shouldn't have said that....fingers crossed now!!.

Just had another thought . Because ours is 12 years old it doesn't have a lot of electronic things in the habitation. it's much easier to do some of your own fixing of things if needs be.

Hi everyone,

I’ve just joined :) looks a great forum so far

going to buy my first motorhome next year, I’ve had Campervans for 12 years , but need more space now. I’ve got 30k so it’s going to be and older model, hopefully enough to get started

thanks

anthony

To be fair , I’d rather go around Rouen than through it again 😂. Nightmare of a place to drive through .
Agree...I've driven through rouen twice but no more..its an awful city to drive through..I by pass it now..it puts around 45 mins on the journey but well worth it, just for the reduced stress factor..

It's a good point about the timing belt on the 2.8 as it's a right sod to do due to limited access apparently. So a good reason to pick an engine that doesn't need that. I'm not sure about the 2.3 litre engines?

A couple of other things came to mind - not necessarily price or age related, but check your payload needs and make sure you choose a van that will cover them. Also look out for scams - several have been posted on the forum and I’ve seen a couple on ebay where genuine sellers have had account and business details copied to offer non existant vehicles. I think a forum search for “scam” will turn up some threads worth skimming.

Your right about Rouen , the many times I have been there , the route through the tunnel usually , through familiarity , takes me into a smooth but busy route around , except once with a trailer on the back with a kit car on it , not paying enough attention to my familiar route took the wrong turning towards city centre , I think there was some sort of funfair going on , instant panic , had to depend on the sat nav , big time , but I must admit it got me on the right route eventually 😌
