Hi all - looking for wisdom!

Thanks for all your advice, I think I have found some local training - I'll post an update when done which may help someone else👍

...and did you manage to find Sir Norman after all this?

Sorry....couldn't resist.

Out of interest has anyone done the CAMC training or are there better options?
We did it and and enjoyed the day and learnt a few things. Going out on the roads for 30 mins at the end just with instructor was confidence building as he found no faults. Husband would have been going, mind that, look out, do this, do that !

Well I only went and did it! I have driven the van! I decided just to get on with it, stop panicking about doing it and just have a go. My ever patient OH was beside me giving instruction and by some miracle we were still talking when we finished bless him!🤣 . So this weekend I have reversed on to pitch, put the van on levellers, managed a 3 point turn to get onto an awkward drainage point (don't ask🙄) and driven from Dover to our Rochester storage. I am very relieved and very pleased to report that all went well but I was concentrating so hard to start with I gave myself a headache and was gripping the steering wheel so hard that I got cramp in my hand!🤪 I definately need to watch the overhang as my OH got a bit of a sweat on at one point near a wall as I was making a right turn away from it! Lesson learned and lots more lessons to learn, I am sure of that.🙂

Hi all
I have always always wanted a motorhome, and, for my 50th birthday, my husband has hired one for a week's holiday for me and the kids (I'm the only driver). I'm a bit scared about driving such a big vehicle (it is 7.4m long) and so want to have a bit of training - but all the training I have found needs me to have a motorhome and bring my own along? Do you have any advice of how I could get some training before I have a motorhome? I'm in London, UK.
Buy one and practise in a super market at night. Confidence will come!

I am a little confused as to why youre asking ANYONE on here for some wisdom 😀

Seriously though, well done you. My OH is also a good driver but she keeps putting off having a drive of our latest Moho even though she has driven the others competently?

Perhaps the cheapest way is either buy/borrow a cheap large van and practice with that before using an expensive motorhome OR, as you live in London, apply for a job, driving the buses for Transport for London (TFL)? (at least you will get a test drive!)

Thanks, the overhang is quite large and definitely one to watch. I may 'give it a go' on the motorway on our next trip out just to get the feel of it first. I have been told I am a good/confident driver and have a full bike licence having had a couple of bikes in the past but the MH is all new to me so want to be confident I know what to do if and when a challenge arises as I am sure they do!😁

You'll be fine. It's just like riding a bike except for it being longer, wider, higher, slower, heavier, more seats, enclosed, more sluggish, takes longer to stop and anything not secured flies around the hab area when you corner.

Don't forget the constant irritating voice telling you which way to do it and I don't mean the satnav

Why didn't I think of that and just think bike!🤣
