I wonder whether the weight limit issue with bike racks is that they are hung onto the back wall of the vehicle, many of which are the laminated wall which I do not think would take much more weight

most racks for 2 bikes are 50kg

Securitas at Ouistreham climbed under ours on Saturday morning then placed a card on the windscreen once they'd searched both in and out. We won't use either the Aire or the check in lanes to overnight anymore. Tend to stay at Camping Des Capucines just over Pegasus Bridge at Ranville now.

Same thing happened to us at Ouistreham on 19th March.
The Securitas guy made one French registered motorhome driver remove his cycle cover and put it in the van.
We stayed at the aire in Herouvillette the night before. Nice place to overnight.

Well several '000s of Ukrainian refugees seem to be going to UK by normal flights/ferries, without resorting to illegal means.

They are of course genuine refugees who applied through British Consulates - a process also available to any other genuine refugees.

Can one draw conclusions?

Really? The UK has admitted only 1,000 non-family refugees so far and continues to make it difficult. More refugees with family members in the UK have been admitted but that doesn't mean that genuine refugees from other countries can enter on the same basis.

The conclusions are that the UK government has had a lot of attention on its refugee application process from Ukrainians and has stated to move, albeit very slowly. Refugees from Syria, Afghanistan etc haven't had such opportunities.

Because the UK government makes it very difficult to apply for refugee status outside of the UK.

I appreciate that you're law experience is much greater than mine but in most cases, it is not yet illegal to enter the UK as these channel crossing refugees do. Patel and Johnson are trying to change the law so that it is but it hasn't been.

I think it was a typical knee jerk reaction to something that the headline got terribly wrong. None of that is bad, in fact, some of it could do with being enforced in the UK! But I eagerly await the post that says "Another dig at the Brits"!
