Help with Portuguese motorways

For some reason Revolut had problems with the IBAN, but everything should be ok now.
It happens now and again - sometimes at French toll plazas, but not always. Still one of the best cards for exchange - though don’t ask it to work (at exchanging) over a weekend - very old fashioned about that 😆

Yes, it's all a bit confusing. We didn't use motorways that much and paid using a Chase card without problem. Then we unexpectedly hit an automatic cameras section. That evening I registered online, but haven't heard anything since. That was in December.

Having now driven in Portugal in our motorhome (we are in the south) we tend to avoid the toll roads. I have senders in both my car and the motorhome so it is no effort for us but generally we find driving on the non toll roads much more enjoyable and not really than much slower. I use them in the car but rarely in the motorhome, On most of the older roads you can maintain 80 kmh without a problem and we never go over 100 on the toll roads anyway.

Can anyone tell me if the Fulli Tag works on ALL motorways payment systems in Portugal

Thats what we are using at the moment in Portugal, all the France tolls worked well, each toll showed up on my phone about three hours later, but the Portugal tolls can take a month so I'm told, not had one show up yet, still waiting

In Feb this year, we used EasyToll by registering on entry. When we got back home in March, we still hadn't seen any charges appear on our CC statement, so we dropped the Portuguese Toll Dept an email and they replied to say it can take several weeks, which it did. We were just worried that we'd missed registering again for the auto tolls up in the north of the country, heading from Lisbon to Burgos in Spain.

We use that system all the time. It’s great but the charges don’t come through for a few days/a week. I’ve never had one take several weeks. The only problem with Easytoll is it doesn’t work on the ViaVerde routes around Lisbon

We used the toll roads for the first time in March. Registered with easy toll for the electronic only tolls. Then paid for any that had a payment option using a card. We were quite happy thinking the tolls are quite cheap. Then one trip from south of Lisbon to just past it cost about €34 🤦‍♀️. Lesson learnt check ahead of time. Ours took about 10 days to appear on the card for easy toll.

We have not had any Spanish or Portuguese tolls show on our Fulli so far and it’s been a month

We’re currently in Spain, about to head into Portugal for the first time. Can anyone help explain how the Portuguese motorway system works? We don’t intend to make a great use of it but looking at the road atlas it seems that it might be good to use occasionally. Looking online it seems as though most, if not all, are pay motorways and some require prepayment, although it’s not clear which one they are. Can anyone throw some more light on the subject (I’d be the first to admit I should have done a bit more research before we left the UK).
We were in Portugal during March and I had the same problem with toll motorways and in the end chose not to go to Lisbon because I couldn’t determine for certain how to pay or when to pay the toll charge. As luck would have it, my satnav took me down a slip road to a toll and I had to continue. Fortunately that toll, north of Porto, simple involnved taking a ticket on entry and paying by card when you left the motorway.

Thanks, found the thread. I’ve decided to go with the 30 day EasyToll option. You can enter your registration number and credit card details online and it then automatically takes payment from you as required (https://www.portugaltolls.com/en#easytoll).
This works very well. We have just returned from Portugal after 6 weeks and used all the motor ways. As you arrive in the country on a motorway, you take the Foreigners gate, enter your credit card details at the gate and then continue. It is valid for 30 days, and it is easy to extend. There are other motorways too, and there we just paid with Apple Pay. Not as convenient, but easy enough.

I have come across two toll systems

The traditional take a ticket type, called Via Verde. You drive through toll booths, take a ticket and pay in exit with cash or credit card. I’ve used these around Lisbon.

Else where I use “Easy Toll” https://www.portugaltolls.com/en#easytoll

I register the MoHo Registration Number and enter my credit card details. Every time I pass under the toll gantries a toll is taken from my card. It takes a few days for the charge to show on the card. The registration is for 30 days from the day you sign up. For us that means we have to re register while there.

We often drive over to Portugal and our Bip&Drive tag just seems to work. Every so often as we go under one if the gantries with an array of cameras etc it gives out a beep; same as when we go through the Vía-t lane at toll booths and tge barrier opens for us. YMMV, of course!

I have a Fulli tag and in Spain two months since worked faultlesly but in Portulgal we had to pay at every toll booth.
