Learning to appreciate what time we have left
Hi Guys..

A friend of ours has recently taken on an Auto Trail Delaware . I think it's a 2014?
The door that for the Loo and the bedroom (I believe it shuts off the lounge when in use with another couple on board?) has a Plastic long brown type of hinge . This has been cracked or even just given up the ghost! I also believe it is a full length type?
Any Ideas where these can be obtained from apart from Auto-Trail themselves at all please?

Kindest regards Kev and Carolyn

A piano hinge can not do the same job as the screen as the axis changes as the door swings through 90degrees. It would have to replace the existing hinges (2 or 3 I don't remember) but whether the door would still close into the toilet aperture and cover the through walkway I don't know. It would certainly screen the half inch or so gap but I'm not sure it would give the door sufficient range to do its job of closing both apertures

Plastic is short lived as opposed to metal.
hence the op problem!
I was involved in making an engine out of plastic except for the pistons, liners valves and crank. It didn't last ling hence Ford US didn't pursue.
That is why they do not use many living hinges in cars i.e. temperature, humidity, vibration, warranty etc.
We now engineer 'smart hinges' but that is another matter.
For motorhomes we started off with piano hinges. Unless you want your doors falling off stick to them as per suggestion.
You could always use flush mounted cupboard hinges, once agail metal.
For info. We had a Savannah. Saw that there would be this problem in rhe furure.

Not the screen. That is different. We are talkng about the bog door which is a solid door. If you have a Delaware or Savannah you would understand the thread!

I have and the door does 2 openings and I cannot see how it would work using a normal piano hinge.

Hang on. Am i missing something here. The door is closed. Opens uo 90 degrees and latches next to the shower.

I have had a Savannah and a Delaware and the screen (I called it that to differentiate from the hinges) we are talking about is the 3 inch wide piece of plastic that covers the half inch or so gap at the hinge edge when the solid door is across the motorhome.

I would wait and see how someone manages to bodge fix it with a piano hinge to see If it’s ok before I tried it.

No. It's not the door hinge I can assure you. I have replaced three of them that split and eventually took it off and did without it. Which as I said at the wry beginning is the easiest solution

It's definitely not a hinge. As others have said, it's a flexible strip designed to cover a gap between door and frame. I had one on my last AT. It lasted me ten years and was on the 'van when I sold it. With a bit of ingenuity it shoud be possible to contrive something which would do the job and look good.
A piano hinge will categorically not do the job!
