Getting Better
My fridge freezer is not cooling, I’ve had it on most of the afternoon and I’ve got a temperature gauge in the freezer compartment and it’s not cooling at all.
It runs on gas fine and the flame is roaring away as in the picture no error codes except when I put it onto 12v (code 7) it also doesn’t switch over to 12v when I start the engine. I haven’t tried it on EHU as I won’t be using it. I not bothered about the 12v much either I just need it working on gas…

I leaving home on Sunday for the ferry (France) on the 3rd and will be away for 10 weeks…
The burner looks recently new and it fires up ok flue seems to be ok..

Any ideas please..?

Rather than try to remove the fridge to gain access to the flue, this is what I did.

Firstly, my baffle was suspended from the top of the flue and was held in place by a piece of bent wire that was hooked over the top of the flue. To remove it, I use another piece of wire with a hook fashion on the end such that I was able to fish the baffle out. As an alternative, it could be worth trying to fish it out with one of those telescopic magnets. In either case, the last thing you want to do is unhook the baffle for it then to drop down into the bottom of the flue.

Secondly, to clean the flue I used the rifle bore cleaning method whereby I attached a small weight to the end of a thread and lowered it into the top of the flue and fished it out of the bottom of the flue. I then attached a strong cord to the thread and pulled that up to and out of the top of the flue. I then tied a suitably sized piece of rag in the middle of the cord such that I could pull this down to the bottoms of the flue and then back up to the top again, repeat as you see fit. This gave the flue a good clean out.

If you can’t see the top of the flue very well (I know that it’s difficult), you could just try lowering the small weight on a thread and if it appears out the bottoms of the flue then there is no baffle fitted and that may well be the root of your problem.

I hope that helps.

I remember using those. An excellent tip there. (y)

I’m going to an aire outside of Bourges tomorrow and try to take the fridge out to get to the flue at the back so I can clean it, I’ve picked Bourges because there are a few large caravan/motorhome shops there and Thetford service centre so if I need any spares such as a baffle if it hasn’t got one…

If I don’t fix it then I’ll replace it with a compressor fridge at some point and a smaller one at that..😎

Well the rain held off for a bit and I got the fridge out, and as lots of suggestions it has no baffle ..😡🤬
So will go into the town tomorrow and order one as they’ll probably not have one in stock…
Will have to hang around for it so not sure how long it will take but at least I know what the problem is sure to be hopefully I will have a working fridge soon..
it was a bigger to get out and I’ve got bruises where you shouldn’t have..😆😳😎

Bizarre, I wonder what happened to it. I'm baffled, so to speak. :)

Glad you seem to have identified the issue and hopefully will be cool once sorted. :)

Right, the dealer said it would take 2-5 days to get one but I noticed a display fridge that was different but had the same system at the back and I asked if I could have that one and they could replace it when the new one comes in…👍🏼
Bingo.. so I’m off to sancoins by the canal which is not far and fit it… 👍🏼😎

You would never get that service from a UK dealer, brilliant.

I was drooling and doing the dance of the dead fly in the middle of the showroom at the time Lenny so that might have swayed them..😆🤪🥴😎
Using the showroom as a race track in your wheelchair probably helped anything to get you out of the store.
I expect being in a wheelchair helped a lot.

So did you buy the full fridge or just the bits you required?

It's a nice feeling to fix a problem the dealer would have given you a spanking to fix, well done 👍
And a reward of cold beer, can't be bad :giggle:

At last…. Yay:Grin:

I have cold beer..🍻

Thanks everyone for help and support in this distressing situation….😎
So Garry, was the missing baffle the culprit for all your hassle? Maybe it was more likely never there in the first place. :(

Nice one. (y)

Yes jock, no heat diffuser was present, the one I bought must have the most mark up I’ve ever seen, a piece of wire and a twisted 6 inch strip of steel probably cost no more the 50p in materials and to make… €70. 😱😱😱😱

Is cold beer worth that much….🍻😎

Unlucky :(

Ahh, but every time you have a cold beer, the outlay for that baffle/heat diffuser reduces bit by bit. ;)

Have you kept the old burner as an emergency spare? (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
