Help Lithium and Solar Problems !

Just keep feeding Di enough alcohol until she starts asking what the output is 😉😉
Dont tell anyone but two x 110ah lithium, a smart shunt and a BtoB go into ours on Monday.
By the time we get to Hereford we can have lots of data to compare 😂😂
I hope I too will be looking at the data in Hereford for the one I have started to install. If not I won't be there because I am past the point of no return for the installation.

Well I thought it was only me checking the victron app all the time, I’m glad I’m not the only one whose doing it then!

You lot have got some way to go to reach my state of sad. As well as the Victron and lithium battery data, I have got an echo dot in the van with Alexa telling me the fridge and freezer temperature along with the vans internal and external temperature amongst other things.

Well you know what happened to the MP who was caught looking at something he shouldn't have been. Be very careful, lock yourself in a cupboard or something.

Oh my I do sooooooooo empathise with your “Other Half”. His Nibs is utterly obsessed. His addiction started long before we got the van, though and has its origins in our solar installation on our house. Kit was installed to put “waste” energy into our immersion heater. I guess I should have predicted how he would get deeper into it once got the van. Second solar panel was installed, leisure battery swapped for lithium, inverter kit and monitoring kit galore. Satnav never on his phone screen, only battery monitoring.

Meanwhile, at the house a home-made battery bank has been put in place to further ensure not an electron is wasted. Now my life is entirely governed by the sun, like it is a new-age god. Any mention of using a domestic electrical appliance on a day when “Solcast” doesn’t say it will pour gold from the sky is met with such a reaction, you‘d think I was suggesting a second slaughtering of the innocents. He’s now talking of more solar panels on both residences, mobile and brick and heavens knows what else. Is there a self-help group out there for partners of these addicts, or do we need to create one to discuss ways of managing their behaviour…….😳🤣 E x

Absolutely crying with laughter!!!

The problem is, as I am sure my fellow addicts can attest, we can all directly relate to the behaviour and actions of ‘his Nibbs’. 🤣🤪

I would also like to confess my addiction to solar…Mrs CTJ just looks at me with a face that says ‘why did I marry this idiot’ when I get all excited about how much is been produced and how full our batteries are.

We’ve bought a second fridge for the garage and I have had it plugged in since Monday.

I can’t wait to go up to the MH later to see if the batteries are fully replenished as they were at 79%…what’s wrong with me?🤪

I have no idea about batteries, lithium or otherwise, and I manage to completely block out any sentence containing words such as watt/amp/solar/voltage/ with accompanying glazing over of eyes.

I did laugh a few months ago though, when while chatting to Di and Denise, I happened to mention that my only interest in the whole situation was whether I could use a normal hairdryer off grid, whenever I wanted - which I can.

They both looked horrified and almost simultaneously loudly bemoaned the fact that Dave and Steve complain when they get the straighteners and hairdryers out, and head straight for the monitors to see how much energy is being used in the process of making themselves beautiful…!

My wife has the most expensive hair drier in the world it cost lithium’s plus new chargers plus b2b plus lots of solar the list goes on, me on the other hand I use a towel 🤣

Dear collective, I have been reading through this thread with increasing dread, it has shown me that I am in danger, if not already - a solarholic for that I thank you, my problem, unbeknown to me started a couple of years ago with the soft stuff, I aquired a van with a panel, I also had an inverter not in use, I installed the inverter and added an additional battery but these were lead acid, it turns out the panel and controller were stuffed so I didn't pursue it further. At the time as I was wrapped up in my business, having now sold the business I now find I have more time and cash so I have returned to solar, however I am now really concerned, the new panel and Victron are on order, my dilemma is should I nip it in the bud now (if I can) should I send them back or should I risk it? I am worried sick that I may follow in the footsteps of some of the sad individuals who have posted here, I am already considering Lithium and if I am honest I have looked at a possible domestic installation.
Is there any hope? is it inevitable I will move onto the harder stuff? I would really appreciate any help that you, who have or are going through this, can give me before it's too late!

I am afraid there is no turning back once you get Lithium, the heroin for us motorhomers  :ROFLMAO:

I have found a partial cure. I had the solar surgically removed and an Efoy implant. The Efoy implant provides measured doses of A and makes it easier to live with lithium addiction. I now consider myself a functioning lithiumholic but had to fund the implant privately. Total abstinence would be cheaper but I am weak willed when it comes to spending the children’s inheritance.

Proceed at your own peril you have been warned ⚠️☢️

This is terrible

I'm sat here in front of my imac which is on my desk, the motorhome is sat outside on the drive and I cannot access the Victron app from where I am on my iphone, so i'm thinking of moving the office into the garage so i'm nearer to the Victron controllers. I've found that if I go upstairs and open the en-suite window, dangle out waving my iphone I can then connect fine, its not great but it works.

The issue I have is this, the en-suite is a bit too small to get my desk & chair in so I can sit comfortably, i'll have to balance the imac on the sink and straddle the basin pedestal and leave the desk outside, if i did this where will the iphone go so i can monitor the Victron app?.

Alternatively I can move into the garage and hope that the bluetooth signal between both iphone and victron is able to pass through the insulated garage doors, I can raise the doors but then it will be cold in the winter months, I do have winter clothing though so that will help a little but looks from passers by may be distracting and ruin my concentration of the app.

So do I move into the ensuite and hang out of the window, or flit into the garage, raise the doors and get wrapped up in the winter months

What would you guys n gals do as its driving me nuts

could you not get a bigger garage that you can put the motorhome in?

I would opt for the en-suite. I find I do my best thinking sitting on the bog.

ah!!

now that is a good idea but the ensuite is above the garage so we'd have to do away with that, and a bedroom, infact 2 bedrooms and both ensuites, but it is a possibility and needs some consideration. It would also save me raising the garage doors in the winter so win win (y)

Fit a victron cerbo or raspberry pi you can monitor all over the world 💪🏻😍

what the bloody hell is a victron cerbo lol
It's named after Cerberus, the many-headed dog that guards the Gates of the Underworld. You don't want to know what it does...

OK if you insist. It's a controller running a special Operating System, proprietary to Victron, which communicates with all kinds of Victron devices and controls them. Can also send/receive from some other non-Victron devices. It has built-in wifi, so it can be run remotely from a laptop or phone app. Or it can have a touch-screen attached and be independently controlled.

This would plunge the solar panels into shade. The resultant sudden reduction of A* would result in horrendous withdrawal symptoms. This should only be done under careful medical supervision.

* A stands for Ampheurithium which is a highly addictive substance.

I had the plans drawn up now as well 🤣

Al (I'm guessing),

Look fella there's no option other than to simply relocate to the van. Is that not obvious to ya? The only connectivity problems you then risk are with the missus. 😂

Steve.

I could cope quite well with the latter Steve thinking about it.

the forma, that’s a no brainier and something i’ll seriously give a lot of thought to 😉

and it’ll be cheaper 🤣
