That's not how it works at an independent.
You get the customers warranty details, ring /email them, fill in their claim form and get paid by the warranty company.
Not sure Fiat are a warranty company and not how the warranty would work, as far as I know you have to take it to a Fiat dealer, that way they can ensure the work does need doing and is done rather than some back street grease monkey claiming for all and sundry that may or may not need doing. Just sayingxroll:

Errrr?. The "Cheapo" Fuel Filter unit is made in the SAME Eastern Europe Factory as the Genuine Fiat one! (at 4 times the price):xrofl:

Yes, the new vehicle warranty stipulates that the vehicle must be taken to and repaired by a Fiat Professional dealer, the only exception being if you experience a problem in a country where there is no Fiat Professional Service Network, in which case you have to obtain a written record of the work carried out and submit it through your supplying dealer on return to the UK. It's a manufacturer's warranty, not an insurance warranty.

Just because stuff is made in the same factory does not mean it's of the same quality..
If that factory thinks there is money to be made by selling a cheaper aftermarket filter they will but it'll come with less filtering material, sometimes shockingly little and sometimes even without a anti drain back plunger.. Some even miss out the plunger completely and just leave the hole, effectively rendering the filter useless at filtering ANYTHING.
Some don't glue the pleats of the material in so it delaminates from the structure.
Some pressure relief valves are so shoddy they basically fail open in normal us

Could be. But I could find no discernable difference, between the Original, that had failed, and the one I bought off the "net". for a quarter off the price Fiat where asking. Either in the structure, nor the element. and the serial numbers where identical?.

So in that particular case, at least, one can only suspect a substantial Fiat markup.

You DO get what you pay for.
One of Fiat's OEM filter suppliers (as with most manufacturers they have contracts for parts supply with more than one manufacturer so they are not completely up the creek if a single supplier has a problem) are UFI. An Italian company, but the filters could have been made in their factories in India or China.

The original air filter I recently took out of my Ducato was also made by UFI. Nothing particularly wrong with it - it obviously meets Fiat's minimum specification, but it's made to a price with the glued paper element assembled around a two piece open plastic frame. I've seen a few of the OEM filters that mice have chewed through and ended up in the filter box or induction pipe.

For about half the price I replaced it with a Mann filter made in Germany with a bonded paper element and a metal frame with an internal rodent shield. Much better quality IMO.

North East Truck and van dropped a large axle stand on our MH. It’s doubtful that we would ever go back there.
We are hoping to take it to Camper UK in Lincoln.
As for Michael T’s post re. Fiat Professional rather than back street grease monkeys, we broke down in France a couple of years ago. Our MH was taken away, when we collected it, it was in a scrapyard, granted it had a Fiat sign outside it. It had the same problem and we broke down again within a few miles.

I suspect every workshop has the occasional cockup, it depends on how they resolve it.

I've always found CamperUK to be reliable - not the cheapest, but that shouldn't be an issue if it's under warranty.

it was worth taking it to Camper UK. It was nothing to do with emissions but a failed sensor. They also picked up on a recall that we knew nothing about. The engineer was very helpful and knowledgeable. The only hiccup was a couple of hours work stretched to 3 days.The motorhome was emptied before it went to Lincoln, but luckily I had left one of the beds made up, so himself has been eating in Tescos and reading a tractor magazine, it wasn’t worth him coming home. The holdup was due to Fiat sending an incorrect replacement sensor.

15 months and 8000 miles. Warranty surely. Speak to a Fiat dealer, should be a no charge job. Do insist on a full report of their findings, might be useful in the future.
Spot on, I had a low oil pressure warning light come on and go off, called out the RAC who could not find anything wrong, I booked it in to the Fiat dealer.....they found the logged fault in the ECU and did a firmware update as it was a known fault.

In case people are wondering, manufacturers do not always 'patch' or update all systems out there, different engine builds different options that are controlled by the system patch all systems and you can create a new error code remember there is no such thing as fault free software just stable software.

Hi - Really helpful - Reminds us why a diagnostic tool is just one in the tool kit. A useful one but with limitations.

I had the recent experience of roadside rescue using electronic test equipment to identify I had a problem with glow plugs re starting and advised me to get them changed. A visit to my garage confirmed the glow plug issue but established the real issue as something else - a faulty relay supplying them.
