Hello from "Bonnie Scotland"

I retired a year ago after teaching in a secondary school for 33 years. I don't miss the children, the workload, the paperwork or the bells!

I'm married to Jim (mariner41) and we've recently acquired an Elddis Autoquest 120. So far, we've only ventured to the Scottish Highlands but hope to travel further afield as we gain experience.

I must admit I'm still a bit wary driving - especially on the narrow Scottish roads - but I'm sure I'll gain confidence in time. However, if any of you are travelling in the Highlands and don't get the "wave" from an Autoquest, my apologies - it's probably me with my knuckles white from gripping the steering wheel.

Looking forward to reading all the posts and benefitting from the advice given.

I was chatting to Scottish MHer in Aboyne last week. He's a great fan of Europe but the great problem is distance. He said the Rossyth ferry is a brilliant idea but he was quoted £1200 fare. So he drives all night to get to Dover instead. Still expensive in diesel.

At least if you are now retired you can spread the high cost over a longer period so it doesn't seem quite as bed.

And size, well, soon enough you'll be driving it like a Punto. If there is any hint a wagon or bus goes down a road you surely can.

Since you are retired you can keep an eye on the weather and if it looks good head for the hills.

Hi and welcome to the site. Narrow roads are all wide enough, just take note of the coaches rushing up and down them. Enjoy the life, and wave more, hee hee. If you do take the long trip south, why not make it in September and come to the Shepton Mallet motorhome and RV show. Meet some of the funsters and see how we have fun, Hee hee don't forget to stock up in the hard stuff before coming south though.

Hi, Pauline & Jim, welcome to the fun site. We were on the Mull of Galloway at New England Bay CC Site a few weeks ago had a great time. It's about 13 years since we were up the west coast- got as far as Ullapool before turning back. Hope to get up again next year for a month if possible-go up the west and back down the east coast. I'm sure you'll soon get used to your van then you can enjoy your lovely country more.
