I have been reading about the timing belt. Is the recommendation to change it regardless what the seller says? Has anyone changed the timing belt in Spain? Any idea of the costs? Thanking you in advance for your help. Regards. Mou

No real problems. The electric drop down bed ( if you have one) can play up, usually due to putting on too much bedding. Models built in 2016/17 can suffer with flooring delamination which is being re fitted and paid for by Burstner.Hi Phil. I used to live in Colchester/Essex, down the road from you.Thank you for coming back to me. It seems that Burstner is of top German quality. Any watchouts? tips? I am viewing it and collecting it in 2 weeks time?
Thank you for the advice. I have asked the seller to provide me with the proof that it was done. He said that the belt and water pump were done together. I just want to see that it was done. Failing this, I will get a discount from the price for the repair. You are right. It is not worth the risk !I'm no mechanic or expert but I've heard "belt snaps - potential BIG REPAIR BILL".
You don't get any warning.
Read where some people never change a belt in 10+ years and no issues. Down to luck I guess but just good maintenance..
There will be others on here a lot more expert on the matter![]()

My advice is don’t buy anything until you know you need it. Plenty of advice on the forum and Burstner owners club especially.

Yes true.... my Mechanic charges me 30E an h. Sorry but I thought you meant Phil charges 30E an hour. Let us forget it. It is Friday. Thanks GodI must be living in a parallel Universe.
My comment was Cut and Pasted on this thread from a longer post.
I've now looked and cannot find the comment??? Spooky!
DOH!!!
I've now found the comment.
It was you Mou and Iryna (at 2.16pm yesterday)who said that YOUR mechanic charges 30E an hour.
I'm off to have a lie down in a darkened room![]()
I didn’t see many Burstners until we bought one. Now they are everywhere. Not many Ixeo it680g,s about though. My daughter lives in Colchester, Lexden to be exact.Fellow Burstner owners here too, from sunny Colchester!
This is exactly the one I will be buying in 2 weeks. Hopefully after current lockdown. It is 7.40 m long and looks fantastic. I will be fitting a sat dish as it does not have one. As the previous owner had the MH for only one year, they do not have proof that the cam belt was changed. Even though when they bought it, the original owner from new claimed he had done it. I am pushing to have that document, failing this, I will have to do it !!You don’t know if it’s “about to go” It’s a maintenance item and the interval for change is every 5 years. They could last a lot longer but there is a risk of a lot of engine damage if it goes.
I am in Abberton, on the way to Mersea. I have an Ixeo it640, bet you haven't seen one of them!I didn’t see many Burstners until we bought one. Now they are everywhere. Not many Ixeo it680g,s about though. My daughter lives in Colchester, Lexden to be exact.

Hola. Thank you very much for the info. Much appreciate it. This Burstner had 2 owners and the 2nd owner only had it for 12 months, as they prefer a caravan. They are sending me proofs that the cam belt was changed in 2019 so I have 2 years peace of mind. I will for sure look after it. I am looking forward to using it. Many thanks. Happy motoring and camping.Hi we have a 2010 Burstner Ixeo 674G. Its been our only van and we have had it from new. Have been very pleased with it, very impressed with the build. So far no real issues (touch wood). We have only done 40,000 miles but following the advice of others on this site we have changed the cam belt every 5 years and for peace of mind have it serviced and an oil change every year. Enjoy your new van.
Thank you for your feedback. But it has been strongly recommended to change it every 5 years. Depending on mileage done. I am fortunate with mine. The current owner did change the cam belt and water pump in May 2020. So helpfully trouble free until 2025 !!I have owned dozens of vehicles - cars and vans - never changed a cambelt, never had one break................never personally heard that anyone had one break.........just my experience....

Hi Mike. I am so sorry for your misfortune. What a terrible thing to happen, on the 1st few days of your holiday. Everyone's nightmare. Having said this, I would still recommend changing the cam belt every 5 years. Not worth taking the risk. The one I am buying, the cam belt and water pump were changed in May 2020 so I have until 2025 to worry about things.Hi,We planned a trip to Spain back in 2012 and had a major service including a cam belt change ,on our Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD just before we went away ,we got as far as the Pas de Calais before there was a loud bang and lots of white smoke after being towed to a Fiat garage in Dieppe .The cam belt had snapped and blown the engine to pieces .We were advised that either a rebuild or a new engine was required both were the same price oddly enough .5 days later the new engine was fitted .it had come from Fiat in Italy by courier we were told by the mechanic the reason for the engine failure was probably down to the missing bolt that he had spotted was not in place.total costs for this debacle was about 9700 euros which luckily I was able to pay .The moral of this story is you pays your money and takes your chances . The garage that had done the service etc. denied any responsibility .
In the last 12 months I have done:you need to get out more
