I am learning fast 😊
I have been reading about the timing belt. Is the recommendation to change it regardless what the seller says? Has anyone changed the timing belt in Spain? Any idea of the costs? Thanking you in advance for your help. Regards. Mou

2010 model should now be on its second belt change in 2020. Every 5 years is the Fiat recommendation.
So if its not done and no proof, I would personally get it done and maybe look at a discount off the seller.

A straw poll would suggest that the vast majority of Dealers (well reputable ones) would change the belt on changeover because they can't guarantee when or if the belt has been changed before.

The cost implications of repair/replacing an engine should the belt go 'Ping' make it a no brainer, but, of course, they're not charging themselves £100 an hour to do the job, Its just wages plus the parts (which they get at trade).

2010 it's either due for it's 2nd change or just had one, if the current owner has a bill for the a recent cambelt change fine if not it would be worth changing.
Cost in the UK around £400 at an independent (including new water pump) at least twice that at a main dealer.

Thank you. I will. They have not come back to me yet. I am due to collect it in 1 or 2 weeks time and then, I will get it changed. Depending what they say and proof provided.

I note you have posted 5 times.

Following the advice given on this thread alone might I respectfully suggest that you shell out £15 and become a Full member of Fun.

The advice/friendship and bon homie on this Forum makes it the best £15 you will spend. (After buying the Burstner!!!)

By the way, I am not buying the MH from a dealer but from a private seller.

Hi Mou and welcome.

You could have 'lurked' to your hearts content and read so much stuff you never knew, BUT;
You'll now find you can ask as many questions as you like, you can view the travelogs with some
stunning pics. and so much more.
:pink:

PS> I'm not on Commission, am I Jim?

Hi & welcome. You will usually find that a garage will be the best bet assuming they can get it in ,to do the work as many motorhome dealers here just farm it out & add a bit.
Peugeot main dealer hourly rate here is under 40€ so Fiat wouldn't be much different. independents aren't much cheaper . If you can't ascertain what has been done in the past then get the whole lot changed. Tensioner, idlers, belt, water pump.etc.

Hi. Thank you ever so much. I asked them to send me the bills of what was done. They indicated to me that the cam belt and water pump was done. Service and maintenance only 3000 km ago. They had it for a year and have done very little mileage. The ITV is in June 2021. I have already contacted my own garage to see what the cost is. He charges 30E an hour. I will know more this evening. (y)

Hi Phil. I used to live in Colchester/Essex, down the road from you. :giggle: Thank you for coming back to me. It seems that Burstner is of top German quality. Any watchouts? tips? I am viewing it and collecting it in 2 weeks time?

Tonka, :(. Never even thought about this expense for owning a motor home.

How do you know when it's about to go?

I'm no mechanic or expert but I've heard "belt snaps - potential BIG REPAIR BILL".
You don't get any warning.
Read where some people never change a belt in 10+ years and no issues. Down to luck I guess but just good maintenance..
There will be others on here a lot more expert on the matter 👍
