Those of you who use a lot of data and are visiting Portugal might like to know that...

NOS now supply a pay as you go data sim for €10 for 10 days.

This is for completely unlimited use (no throttling what so ever).

Sadly the days cannot be split up.

Coverage is pretty good and in 4G areas I get up to 30/40/50 mbs.

That's a great find (where can it be found ?)
At a monthly rate of €30 it's about the same as 3 Feel at home ,which often has a very poor throttled,strangled signal.
Anyone know of anything similar for Spain ?

I assume you can top them up either online, at a Multi Bank machine or at a NOS shop, where you would buy the card from.

I suppose a Google search will find the closest outlet to you.

Obviously you will need a mi-fi thingy to put the card into.

The NOS shop in the Grand Plaza in Tavira has closed now so I have had to take out a rolling contract with Vodafone again, the speed here in Cabanas is again rubbish.

Speed tests on the site wifi show 16 mps and the Vodafone around 8 which would be OK for my needs except it keeps slowing right down and dropping out altogether.

The site wifi was unreliable last Winter and as the site fills up after Christmas I expect the speeds to reduce significantly.

This thread has wakened me from my passive state to seek out the nearest NOS outlet which turns out to be in V.R. Sto Antonio and not Faro as I was informed by the Vodafone staff.

@JJ have you used the NOS connection in Cabanas and was it any good?

I am really, really sorry but I can't remember! This means it must have ok(ish) or I would have moaned...

I actually got my original NOS contract from the Phone House in Tavira Shopping... I am sad if it is now shut down. I got my Note 4 from them too.

Yes sadly gone now, I was hoping to try the NOS out this Winter but did not fancy a trip to Faro but will probably try and find the one in V.R.

Please note...

Funster RayV8 tells us that you cannot top up this data sim at the same price.

In order to keep the unlimited data for 10 days for €10 deal you have to buy a new SIM...

Do you need ID to buy these SIM cards (like in Getmany) of just a fist full of Euros ?

No just your 10 euros & if you ask they will activate your sim if you have a unlocked device, I use a unlocked HUAWEI wifi dongle, its all good to go.

They are €10 for 10 (consecutive) days.

You are allowed 15 gigs.

You cannot top them up at the same rate.

You can buy as many sims @ €10 as you want... no passport or ID needed.

No activation needed. Just plug 'em in and off you go.

I today bought one from their shop in Lagos which is close to Lidl Lagos and can be found here

Or Google NOS plus the name of the town and they will show up on Google maps

It is from the time you start using it...

and shussssh, keep it secret but... research has shown, you sometimes get more than ten days use out of a card.

I asked about buying 2 cards but the guy suggested that I buy another when I needed it in case NOS decide to change their offer and the second card may not work.

Not sure if its the case across Portugal but our local Continent supermarket (portalegre) has a Worten electrical store in the same building and they do NOS, Vodafone and MEO.
Worth a look.

Well... that is the opinion of one guy in one shop!

I have talked with a different guy, in a different shop, where my friends bought 4 cards at once.

Neither of them are in a position to know what the company might do in the future.

I also have experienced young staff members in NOS retail shops who do not actually know much about the different data packs they sell. (Maybe they were new.)

I don't think NOS would "switch off" SIM cards they have already taken money for... why would they?

That would lose them a customer forever for no gain.

We are now on our third 10 day sim. Each one has stopped on the 10 days, so no extra for us. Also they are valid til 12/2017. We intend buying more, they probably don't want you to buy more as they are hoping you will select a monthly payment plan.

You can buy them at Portimao shopping centre where we got ours, but they are also available at Algarve Shopping centre at NOS shop as we enquired for someone else.
