Heating

Same here IF my Eberspacher diesel heater fully worked! 😡

Maybe time to swap over to a more reliable Chinese diesel heater like we have. :whistle2: :giggle:

Hello how do you guys heat the campervan when there is no electricity available to use are you are not on a campsite
Same truma system on gas setting. Be warned if it's very cold it uses tons of gas, as in a 6kg bottle in 3-4 days. You ideally want refillable canisters if you plan to be offgrid for any period of time as 2x11kg will likely last a couple of weeks.

However if we were offgrid for longer than the 20 ish days a year we do now, we'd fit a Chinese diesel heater, as they are far cheaper to run over winter on a per-day basis. Likely 25% the cost of even refillable gas.

We use our gas boiler, and even with an old fashioned pair of batteries can last three to four days with out hook up or driving. Going away over Christmas and new year a 11kg gas bottle lasts us two weeks powering fridge, cooking, and heating.

Our Chinese diesel heater is the best thing Manic has done for our van.
Approx 8-9 mins from cold to a warm van, and it’s been bl….dy cold, wet & windy here in Suffolk right on the coast!
The gas heaters use far too much gas!

Built in Truma gas blown heating.
We only go on electric hook up a couple of nights a year and use the motorhome through winter in the UK.

Not much difference in the cost of running gas or diesel. Refillable propane gas at £1.00 per litre giving 7.08kWh of heat costs 14.1p/kWh. Road diesel at £1.38 per litre giving 10kWh of heat costs 13.8p/kWh. Red diesel would be cheaper but you would need a separate tank.

Can you use 28sec kerosine in a Chinese diesel heater?

Kerosene is home heating oil, which is what I use in our diesel heater.

There was, at least, two types of Heating Oil when we used to deliver it.
Make sure it's kerosene you get and not what we called Black Oil, that needs heating before use. 😄

Where do you buy Kerosene ?
Do you syphon some from the Lear Jet ?
Rye Oils in Rye East Sussex, they wil ship 20lt but expensive at £31.50.

I put a 20 Lt container in the van and fill up at the pump there. Mi's brother & mum live in Lydd so we are often passing them.

Because you asked the question do we assume you have no gas heating... ?

If that's the case then as mentioned above look into fitting a diesel heater.
I have gas with the Alde wet system but use a diesel heater out in my shed, really heats up but be aware you need a good battery system to keep it going.

That's more expensive than normal diesel isn't it? 🤔

Won’t a diesel heater use more electric power than truma gas, or alde heating?

Only for a few seconds on start up for the glow plug, overall probably not much in it.
There's also the diesel pump which is extra draw compared to gas that's fed to the burner by its own pressure.
A friend that switched from gas Truma to diesel said the diesel consumes roughly 50% more amps in similar conditions compared to the gas version so in winter it might be a difference of 25Ah vs 40Ah / day. Significant enough that some dealers here recommend a second living area battery to compliment the typical <100Ah AGM if you choose diesel instead of gas.
The second generation is supposedly more efficient, but I haven't heard any real life numbers about that yet.
