Looking for a heads up display (really for our maiden trip to France)
Are there any you can recommend please, as there's more choice than my brain knows what to do with it!

I take it will show KPH (upon selection?) As this is my reasoning for getting one

Thank you

Yes they get the data straight from the vehicle ecu.
it’s also probably the best device to keep your eyes on the road and stop you speeding.

Had one of these….£33….very good.

I personally think it’s the best thing you can do to the van. Makes keeping to the speed limit easier especially in kph.
As suggested set it so the display is higher than your real speed.
I use the one gadget John uses on you tube so it will be in his Amazon suggestions. But basically similar to above

Not 'Head-up" but has done the same job for us for some years now. A MIO MiVue Dashcam with a speed readout on the rearwards facing screen which as far as I have found from roadside speed indicators in all parts of Europe it's agreed with them.

Unfortunately this camera has succumbed to the heat of the sun on the dash for too many years and is reaching the end of its screen life. I would love to find another with the same facilities, does anyone know of a model that will do this? Maybe a similar device would be useful to the OP.

Thank you all
Really appreciate your help and advice
Will digest the info over next few days to add to my Xmas list for Mr Elsie (not a shoes and handbag lady by any means!)

I use a free app on my phone, digiHUD. Works fine, just place the phone on the dash under the windscreen.
I use speedo pro app, mounted in a holder in a convenient position in my peripheral vision.

We use a dash mounted satnav as the "spare" speedometer - it's actually easier to read it than the one on the van and shows you what the speed limit is wherever you are (mostly).

I'd use my mobile phone with Google Maps running... It shows the speed you're travelling at plus the speed limit of most of the roads that you're on.

Pretty much the same here. Google or Waze on the Ipad, plus the actual speedo in the MH plus the inbuilt tomtom warns of most speed cameras plus setting the cruise control properly.

I don't really see the need for these hud's and if they need to plug into the OBD then I'd have to remove the security I have on that leaving it accessible to thieves.

No, it's a fairly normal windscreen mounted dashcam but when driving the screen displays speed. Mine is wired via a USB power unit buried in the dash that is only on with the ignition.
Unfortunately heat has damaged the touch screen and it can no longer be programmed.
MIO no longer make an equivalent model with this facility maybe because with the screen on permanently they run too hot.

I use my phone gps speedo more than my MH speedo... The former is more accurate.

I had a one that plugged into my obd port, but it would not allow the cruise control to work whilst plugged in. Now have a gps one.

Thanks, I don't think they, and others, have grasped the real meaning of a Head up display many are simply a device that sits on the dash top.
I'm thinking of something like the HUD in the CUPRA Born but just the speed read out, that in my mind is a true HUD.

I have one of these. I bought it last year and three trips across to Europe and it seems to do the job. The latest version uses OBD and OBD2 but I just plug mine into the USB socket and off we go. According to the speedo on my bike TomTom it is displaying 1kpm over the TomTom.

When entering a village with the camera and display what I think in 50 on the HUD shows to be 47 or 48 on their sign!

Sygic have that in their navigation app, however I couldn’t get on with it as I kept seeing a double image as it reflected off the inner and outer of the laminated screen.
