Hello all,
I had to supply proof of I.D. to do with a legal matter this week, and to my horror I just had a call from the legal people from that company to tell me "sorry we cannot accept an expired drivers licence as proof of I.D.
I know the expiry date is 01/12/2024. However I have, like a lot of us an HGV entitlement.
Now before you all kick the crap out of me, I know I should have read every single detail of the licence.
However it would appear that the DVLA, in it's infinite wisdom, has seen fit to put the expiry date of my HGV entitlement on the front of the licence 4b. That date is 01/12/2022. This is because over the age of 70 you have to take a medical every year to keep that entitlement. You can take a medical every three years if you just want to keep your 7500kg entitlement.
Every thing else expires on 01/12/2024. So why is that date not on the front ?
Today I checked with the DVLA and the lady told me the "card" is out of date but I can still use the other categories ? I said to her, Try telling that to the police in the EU. She then said "oh no you cannot do that you must renew your licence again. There's silly old me thinking the "card" was my licence.
Now I have to re-apply for my licence on form D2, and include a covering letter stating I wish to remove my HGV entitlement.
I have always thought the expiry date was just that. 4b on the front.
If I am right, or for that matter wrong I would suggest if you are over 70 you check your expiry date on the front of you licence.
It took me 9 months from my medical to licence in my hand when I renewed December 2021.
I wonder how long before I can go abroad now.
I think I have a really nice 2018 Bessacarr 524 for sale. 3600 miles from new. Anyone interested.
