Has the base price of vehicles just gone up again, in addition to January increases??

I'm not convinced the demand will die.

I remember a few years ago whilst owning a pub we debated long and hard about increasing a pint of lager to the £2 Mark as we felt the locals would stop drinking!

A few years on what is now, £5+ and no one I know has stopped yet 🤔

Agreed but I think that is more to do with discounted beer sales in supermarkets than a lack of demand and the associated rates, tax, energy costs and labour market post 'work from home and supported income'

I sincerely hope that anyone who has retired early have enough funds as you need about the same as your salary we think to continue a reasonable way of life especially if you enjoy motorhomeing and travelling in saying that I retired (tiered) working all hours at 59 and never looked back 😀

When I worked for a Brewery Manager of several Managed Pubs offered my wife and I a Pub to run, I say why don't you? He said not likely!! It's a tough business and anyone who makes a good living from it has my admiration.

It has curbed youngsters of my acquaintance who 'pre-load' at a friend's house before going out for the evening.

Yesterday while I was sitting in the showroom of a dealer waiting to collect our van after service, the sales staff were busy repricing 4-5 Elddis ex 'showroom display ' vehicles, they were now immediately available and they had knocked £2k off them all......

A bit of all sorts really, supply and demand has meant that they don't need to offer any discounts to sell what they have, the £ doesn't buy as many € as it did three years ago, then of course the prices rise by an inflation figure every year and it all adds up.
So I have to ask why then are the yanks not having the same problems? as a start there stuff is cheaper but they haven't had 'shortages' on the scale we are supposedly experiencing in europe?

Sorry I haven't got a clue what is going on in America, it looks like the Pound is not a strong against the Dollar as it was a few years ago so I would have thought that would be reflected in the price of imported RV's, a lot of the supply problems we have seen have been tied up with covid, either extra demand poor supply chain or both.

No war in North America?

A large motorhome rental company last year operated on only 17 motorhomes. This week they ha 37, with another 20 on the way. Perhaps when these come onto the market in the next year or two prices may come down.

I don’t think it’s just the war causing us issues.

America has a lot of in house industry.
We import too much in my opinion but that won’t change now.

But it is the base vehicle cost, compared to the uk & eu they are tap washers, sensibly priced. Even there electric rubbish is far,far cheaper.

Sort of has a wee effect on energy prices….

factories use energy, haulage uses energy….they pass on the increase to customers…

and most UK manufactured MH are full of foreign components….

They would have to take a lot more off an Elddis to get me interested. There does seem to be more new British built vans available than Europen.

The European supply chain’s over dependence on China for a majority of components hasn’t helped.
With China having mass lockdowns due to the way they have handled COVID, it has caused havoc with supply. I believe this has a huge effect on prices.

If prices don't drop at sometime in the future I reckon this will be our last motorhome. The price gap would be too big to contemplate getting a newer model. It's a bit like house prices. - Yes our house has increased in price massively over the last 30 years but it doesn't benefit us as all the other houses have too.

Our current motorhome (21 reg) should last 20 years until I'm 80 so should last long enough! (although at 10,000 miles a year the engine might be an issue?)

Not really in our case. We spent 30 years paying off a mortgage that we don't have now, pensions contributions, saving. All these things we don't need to fund so less income (and less tax!) means we maintain lifestyle at less cost. Also holidaying is cheaper as we were teachers and had to holiday in peak time.

I think there are always good deals on vehicles already on the forecourt. We bought ours straight off the forecourt, no waiting and a bargain price. It's people who order them from the direct from the manufacturer (or even worse buy them from a salesman at the shows!) who pay through the nose and then have to wait 18 months for delivery.

I agree, what put me off UK brands was the layouts.

most Swifts, Autotrails, AS etc have facing bench seats in the living area, whilst Euro brands offers a much more inviting layout with L shaped lounge etc….also much better garages….

then there is quality of course….

sadly that’s why we went for a German one, knowing my grandad would turn in his grave…..

That is a problem even with the super trade in prices the cost to change is getting high, we will both be 73 this year both in good health but we don't know for how long so the one on order may be our last. Last time we changed it cost us 23k, this time it's 35k plus the 10-12k I want to spend on it once we have it.

Agree our income is quite a bit less than when working and in real terms quite a lot less but we are a lot better off now than when we were working.
And with the Motorhome we can spend 120 to 150 nights away a year, couldn't afford to do that in hotels.

I don't agree with that we have always found you get the best deals on factory orders also you get a van specced how you want it not what the dealer thinks you want, often loaded with expensive crap options to boost the dealer profit. We don't mind waiting for delivery but will admit it's a bit of a pain this time.

We would never have found the van we wanted with the spec we wanted on the forecourt and even if we had it would have been a lot more expensive compared to ordering at Dusseldorf show where discounts were backed by the factory to make an extra 4%-8% compared compared to UK showroom discount, might be different now as people are not keen on giving discounts.
