I’m a newbie
Has anyone heard of Hobby motorhomes being banned from campsites?

I have a Hymer with the door on the wrong side and have stayed on quite a few CAMC sites over the last couple of years, the wardens have always told me to park between the two white pegs whichever way around I like, so I'm always in the centre of the pitch, CCC usually tell me to park whichever direction I like but the hab door must be in the centre of the pitch.
We have stayed at many C&MC sites, it was only the one is Chester that had the issue with or door on the 'wrong' side

Lots of parents had very difficult discussions with their children that weekend 🤣🤣

As an FYI, I always use the form below when booking sites.
It tells them all they need to know.
I've been thanked many times for giving them all the info.

I have it saved as a 'signature' so I hit one button for it to appear in my editor and then simply add the dates.
I have English/French and English/German versions of the same thing, also saved as signatures.
(I'll have to make an English/Croatian version for this summer!)

Please can we book onto your campsite

Some years ago on a car park somewhere in rural France we parked up for the night , I think other people there were something to do with a circus . As we sat having an evening beer after a long days drive we decided to stay for the night . The different caravans all varied in size , presumably the larger one’s for the older , higher status people , ranging down in size to a quite small one . The quite small one obviously occupied by a younger couple had a certain rhythm to
it  . We finished our beers and noticed it was still rocking, we agreed that’s impressive , then
another lady walked up to the small caravan and after throwing the door wide open , emptied
the washing machine :LOL::LOL::LOL:

I just did a Google search for Hobby Caravans. To my suprise the OP's original question popped up. I wonder is this innocent question likely to deter a potential buyer? Let's hope Hobby are not talking to their legal boys.

About 12 years ago I phoned a club site at Cherry Hinton (Cambridgeshire?) to book a pitch. I was asked for the make of my motorhome. I asked, “why is that important?” and was told that if I drove a Hobby I would not be allowed to stay. Curiosity got the better of me, as it often does, and I asked for an explanation. Apparently, a substantial group of travellers had managed to set-up camp there, created havoc, refused to leave until the council, police and courts got involved and then left behind a vast amount of rubbish. Afterwards the club took the decision to ban Hobby motorhomes and caravans, as they had been the make favoured by the travellers.

We looked at Tabert, Hobby, LMC vans in 2016 when we were switching from our Hymer motorhome.
At that time the bigger ones were 2.5 metres wide.
That put them in the "residential" category which made them VAT exempt.
However towing regulations (for some reason!) stated that these could only be towed by vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (term?) of over 3.5 tonnes.
We really liked the vans but the 3.5 tonne limit scuppered us.

We ended up with a Hymer caravan which at 2 tonnes was allegedly the heaviest single axle van available, although we chose it for quality and layout.

The twin axle thing seems to be mainly caravans although there are an awful lot of them around now.

Tag axle motor homes (especially the larger Hymers) have been around for ever.

I had always assumed that the Traveller community used large caravans mainly pulled by pickup trucks.

Does anyone tow a 2.5 meter wide caravan in the UK with a standard tow vehicle?
Our VW Touareg is more than capable of pulling one, just not legally (if the rules are still the same).

My favourite French municipal site bans twin axle caravans. The last time I stayed there, travellers (gens de voyage in French) had a mass gathering on the outskirts of the town. The Police started doing regular daily patrols round the campsite. I found out the reason when I chatted with the lady manageress.
