Good afternoon! So please don't flame me 😭😂 I have tried a couple of mobile motorhome people but to no joy. Our battery is totally dead on our Arto...on looking into the depths of the engine bay 😂😂...we decided to try and get someone out to supply and fit a new battery.
Has anyone used Halfords mobile fitting service? I used them for car tyres and they were great but not sure about the motorhome battery.

It’s a shame your not down this way, Cheltenham, I know an excellent indi battery supplier and they fit free 😊

Plus they are cheaper than on the net 👍

I'd make it very clear to them what they're letting themselves in for. It's an a-class motorhome. Tell them the brand and model. If they still offer to do the service, let them. Is there much they can screw up?

Other than access difficulties, I don't think there's many special issues you've got to consider when fitting a cab battery. If you've got a battery master or the solar feeds back to the cab, remember there might still be power at the terminals even with the battery removed. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I will make it abundantly clear!! It's purely the access which is a nightmare!

Interesting thread. After the Peterborough Motorhome Show and on Monday when almost all had gone home, my battery died. Major city, WiFi and phone, what could go wrong. Contacted AA via my bank, after giving my registration they were unable to bring out a battery as I was over 3.5 tons (3.8 tons), We tried several companies dealing with batteries including Halford but nobody was willing to come out with a replacement. Finally found Peterborough Tyres and Batteries and nothing was too much trouble, they were sorry it may take an hour. They came after less time than that and fitted a new battery, delighted. While this was going on I saw accross the field an AA van working on a 5+ ton van who had taken out extra insurance with AA. No doubt his battery weighed more than mine.
I am embarassed to say that I did not know where my Renault Master battery was fitted..... I know now.

Wouldn't bother..some spotty kid without a clue may turn up..
Find a decent mhome repair company

You would probably do better contacting either a local tyre and battery company (post your locality here, someone may have a suggestion) or ATS or National Tyres or similar where they have mobile units.

We tried just that, with very poor response although we did not come across ATS on our internet search that day.
We watched you leave and I tried to do the same....... battery was dead.

I read on a past thread they declined fitting on an A class.
It seems if it's a 5 minute job, battery under a big bonnet as in a car, they will fit but we all know it's like threading a rope through the eye of a needle on an A class.

I would also steer clear of Halfords. The came to fit a battery to my discovery, they were 3 hours late, it was dark, I had to lend them the right tools as they only had mole grips with them and they never reset the BMS so I did after they left.

A local reputable auto electrician is probably your best bet

Halfords, not their mobile service, fitted a headlamp bulb for me once.
They broke the headlamp removing the bulb.
I then had to wait 2 weeks for them to get a new headlamp and fit it.
When fitted I asked them to align the headlamp beam and was told it would automatically self align.
I told the fitting guy it wouldn't but he wouldn't have it.
He informed me he was their "trained auto electrical expert" and as such new more than me.
I then had to involve the store manager before they accepted I was correct and they then had to book me in to a garage to have the beam alignment done.
In my experience they are clueless.

I thought Halfords mobile fitting service does personal & commercial mechanical work by trained mechanics, unlike the shops staffed by spotty youngster (a myth). The mobile service covered the fleet cars I used but that was years ago.

Have you tried your breakdown cover firm? My breakdown firm covers breakdowns my drive. They attended to sought out a binding rear brake on my van. It took them over two hours. The chap did a job much better than I expected.

I think National Tyres are now part of the Halfords group. We are in Cheshire East.

As a matter of interest what truck is your N&B based upon and where is the battery located?

Fiat base and the battery is behind the grille in the engine bay.... nightmare to get jump leads on!

Not Nationwide is it? Their breakdown cover with AA covers you up to 7.5t if it's a motorhome. If it's Nationwide, I'd be following that up. A speerate issue, they took 6 hours to get to me yesterday to recover my van.

The engine battery in my Hymer 614 (3 vans ago) failed on my drive. I bought a new battery from a local autofactors and when I attempted to fit it I almost dislocated my wrist. I contacted my breakdown people, Brittania Rescue, explained the situation, and they came an fitted the battery within an hour.

regards
Allen

national tyres ,,owned by ,,,halfords ,,✔ i had a puncture on my toad while i was up in Scotland a few weeks back ,,i removed the tyre took it to national tyres who then asked me if i had an appointment ,,? 3 days i would have to wait till they could look at it ,,what a joke ,,

When I used their mobile tyre service the van ended up on a lowloader to another independent supplier

So no would not recommend

The little experience I have of Halfords was when the DIL took her car in for an mot.

Let’s just say I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole and that would be too close 😊
Ditto! Had issues when they came to fit the tyres and seems we knew more about tyres than the customer service call centre lot!
Ended up going to ATS

rac green flag and aa will all supply and fit batteries
not if you are not in their service they won't. And if you have a >3.5t van, they will likely not let you join the club (at least directly). What relevance the weight has to a battery, or to say a key, or many things is irrelevant.
