I’m thinking of purchasing two of the Halfords EFB leisure batteries, anyone already using them.

I was after some good honest reviews before I decide, apparently EFB is the lates technology and better than AGM.

Halfords leisure batteries are I have been told rebadged Yuasa batteries and are good quality.

Until you have a warranty issue, they are appalling with after service, by that I mean Yuasa

We have 3 of them, ok so far. Admit that the van has not been used this year, will find out hopefully next year if all ok.

I have two HLB700s and no problems.

To further add to the conversation, should one be concerned about the class rating of leisure batteries and does it really make a difference or is it just marketing?

If you know anybody with a Halfords Trade Card you can get a nice discount on them. I have 2 of these, and can vouch for the service in my local dealership. I returned a Halfords branded battery which had 2 years warranty logo'd on the side of it with no receipt or any proof of purchase, the guy took one look at it and said 'Yep. looks nice and clean, probably less than 2 years old' and replaced it on the spot. It was at least 5 years old!

Some & some the only true leisure batteries are Gel & Lithium, most others are dual purpose but some perform better than others as a leisure battery. A good example is the Varta LDF range.

From Google.
What does EFB battery mean?
enhanced flooded battery

An enhanced flooded battery (EFB) is an entry level battery for cars that support start-stop technology. EFBs are wet-filled and similar to standard flooded batteries. ... This means the battery recovers more quickly, as its application needs to handle heavy-duty, cyclic, start-stop applications.

We use 2 x Varta L36 EFBs with great success for off-grid camping.

The L36 batteries are the exact same units as the Halfords HLB700.

Here are the details for the L36 / HLB700:

Yes, I highly recommend the Halfords EFB's

As mentioned, get a trade card, £88 per battery and I get an extra 10% off with my work discount scheme, so for me £80 each is a no brainer.

Fitted them to mine, the brother in laws and a friends van 👍

That’s probably why Halford’s batteries are so expensive.

Not bought leisure from Halfords but I've used the Halfords 5 year guarantee a number of times on their engine batteries, and once without a receipt.

Jim

I would expect a battery with a five year guarantee to be replaced within five years, even without a receipt, as the battery should carry identity marks.

I wouldn’t expect a battery with a two year guarantee to be replaced free of charge when five years old.

Suppliers have to stand the associated costs, which increases the average cost to all.

No disrespect meant to alvinlee01 . Good luck to them for getting the replacement. More a comment on Halford’s trading practices.

I haven't bought leisure batteries for many years, but will need to soon. I understood that if using without EHU, charging with solar and the engine whilst driving, that you should look for a Class A battery. Is that right or does it not really matter? Is it just the NCC making an issue where there isn't one?
Looking at Halfords they have an AGM battery fitting the Class A certification. More money obviously!

Sadly, the NCC verification scheme has been exposed as nothing more than a manufacturers promotion scam with information that has been proven to be misleading at best and down right lies at worst. Look for weight and number of cycles at a given D.O.D. as an indication of what batteries to purchase.

Having spent many years as a Halfords manager many moons ago, you are correct that they are branded Yuasa batteries. There is also a manufacturing date stamp within the shell, we replaced the batteries if they were within the limit, receipt not always needed.
And yes they are indeed overpriced on most things, all the things we did for customer service, fitting bulbs, wipers and roof bars etc were all done in the name of great service until a new CEO saw value in charging customers for the things we were doing for years!
Me bitter..................no, do I shop there? No
Darren

Halfrauds have missed a trick then.
All there stuff is overpriced.

I've found several items cheaper at Halfords than available online.... Bike stuff, leisure batteries, body repair stuff....
