Haha. £45/ night no facilities

So I found what I believe is the Guardian article referred to above, from last summer:

But the main focus of the piece is another website - WildPoint: https://wildpoint.com/

And it's all about camping in folks' gardens/orchards etc - there have been other versions of this around for a while - not sure if this is another iteration of the same thing, or completely new?

Anyway, the primary focus appears to be on tents and there are also a few glamping options included too. BUT, there are a number of locations suitable for campervans and motorhomes. And if I read correctly, everywhere included must be in a minimum of half an acre and have a toilet available.

Some of the prices look quite reasonable too.

Wonder if anybody on here has tried a 'Wild Camping with Consent' or 'WildPoint' site?
Doesn’t that make it just like a CL but more expensive?

Ah, so here’s a question…… how much do people think IS worth paying? 🙂

(and no, I don’t have have a field round the back ……. hehe)
We ended up in a no facilities (other than a fresh water tap) farmers field in Wales recently. It was late in the day and we couldn't find any free spots. Nice view to the sea. It was a CL site advertised at £10. The farmer said it was wrong and had gone up to £15. We refused to pay it and he accepted £10. Even that was pushing it I think.

Actually, just had a deeper looker the site, at least you can filter choice and it is bookable….. although we don’t use CL’s anymore if they are the same as they used to be this always meant ringing around and hoping for the best! (price never reliable and no idea of availability).

Still too pricey for us tho’ 🙂

Here it is from the current Guardian.
How to keep the summer ‘vibe’ with Shepards huts, glamming and foraging.
It’s clearly aimed at a certain market.

Oh thanks for that!

I knew Wild Camping with Consent was initially focused on the north-east, but seem to have gone national now. 🤔

Parking alongside the vineyard. Absolutely amazing.
If you want to spend money to prove you can. Carry on. I’m happy to say I’ve not got a lot and come here🍷

Not a France passion by any chance? Excellent places.

Well no. Not even mentioned and nothing on show to buy from
As far as I’m aware it was not on France Passion

No wonder all the photos show no one there. Ridiculous price when you can get a full facility site in Spain for 12.50 night.

I'd rather pay £500 per night for a no amenity field in the middle of nowhere than £5 per night for a "full facility" site in Spain...

We very recently did the Three Lochs Forest Drive in the Trossachs, north of Aberfoyle, where you can stay overnight if you purchase a permit. Lots of great places on trail to stop. We just did the drive, didn't stay. Permits can be booked online up to four weeks in advance and cost £4 per motorhome/campervan per night, plus the £3 vehicle access charge you have to pay to access the three Lochs Forest Drive. Probably as nice as the £45 stops!

Slightly off topic but after three nights of intense heat in the house (why is it always so warm upstairs) - I have turned on the aircon in the motorhome and me and the dog are going to sleep in the garden - just the cost of the electric but anything to be a bit cooler for one night!

Maybe this is where VW, MB and other Camper brands gets their pix?

I am sick to the back teeth of seeing ads for campers - usually smaller, expensively camperised vans, parked up, awning out, BBQ maybe lit also (now largely illegal) and chairs, cushions, hammocks and candles dotted about in an idyllic riverside place that you'll normally be moved on from because it's illegal, or in this case - has been monetised.

I think we all understand marketing's need to present the best possible picture but at best the OP's situation is unrepresentative of what camper people generally find or settle for.

I too thought at the start that you could pretty much park anywhere - now I'm finding even parking outside my own home somewhat challenging due to neigbour objections!
Absolutely agree- I found myself shouting at the telly last night while watching “Million pound motorhome” where they give the impression that it’s easy to just park up at the beach. I dont know if anyone else was watching but there was a hysterical bit where a double decker bus conversion was being moved and they took a few things off the shelves, (that didn’t have doors of course) before moving. Predictably, there was carnage when they set off, an office chair flying down the stairs. Had to be a set up.

I saw that. Quite funny in a slapstick way. The couple with their converted double-decker bus with limited experience of camping in a basic van with a mattress in the back might not have realised that their interior design only worked if the bus didn't move. The TV producers might have been aware but preferred to let the carnage happen anyway for entertainment value.

This series 3 is an improvement on earlier ones.

One thing I learnt in running my own business was that there are people who will pay for an "exclusive" service, product or experience, believe it or not there are people who will pay a high price just to prove money is no object, personally I think it is a bit high but if I had no choice but this field at £45 a night or 12.50 for the one in Spain I would be parked up on the field, there is no right or wrong, you have a choice and it's horses for courses.
na lad. start thee engin we that is us ar gone, by by .ok. pj.
