Does anyone, know of a person, that can do everything under one roof. The van at present is in Shotley Ipswich, and without these tests, I will not part with my life savings. I have 14 days to get all these test analysed, then to purchase the van, or loose it ! So it needs to be done next week Guys ? thank you for all your helps caroline

Have you checked to see if you can make this van under 3500 ?
Costs less than 200 nicker.

It is likely to be the same issue with every van. The ones under 3500 are useless for weight for a family, the ones over 3500 can't be driven. It's a Sophie's choice unless they get a license

well, i for one think you have done the right thing in terms of ensuring it meets YOUR needs, it doesnt matter whether anyone else would or wouldnt buy a motorhome for all their family to use, what matters is that YOU have decided that's important to you, in very much the same way someone else 'must have' a fixed bed, large fridge etc.

if you could describe what your MUST have and you would LIKE to have, then funsters might be able to guide you towards one that meets ALL of the things you MUST have and possibly some of the things you would LIKE to have ....

i am assuming it MUST be under 3.500Kgs, Must have more than two seat belts (how many), must be free from damp and rust, must have good engine/gearbox etc and must have MoT ..... price range??

do you want fixed double bed that you dont have to climb a ladder to get to (overcab bed for instance), how many berths - make sure the number of seat belts is sufficient for the number of berths - my list is obviously not exhaustive but yours could be ....

Downplaying can be done without a charge.
Oh. Thought you had to prove it could be under.

More than happy with that news for when I sell ours ..... Eventually

Just need a weighbridge ticket showing it has a reasonable payload at 3500kg so weigh it with everthing removable removed and empty tanks with min fuel.

This is in BSE and might be worth considering as lots of work has been carried out. Older vehicles will always have issues that come with age, but if they've been sorted, it can give a whole new lease of life, a bit like my knee replacement..... Lol 😂

Didn't Caroline want her kids with kids to use it? Would need belted passenger seats in the back in that case.

Edit: I take it back, just looked at images of a Mohican and they don't have belted seats in the back.

I did think that but as you said I think the one she walked away from didn't have seat belts in the back either ...

sorry yes, 2002! Yes over 20 years old, but it is immaculate, with only 2 other owners. no scratches dents or rust anywhere inside or out
Good base vehicle superb engine should be just run in. our 2004 has now got 65k on the clock go for it !

thank you, no pressure, as i have already said, if I cant get these tests done within the time limit, I will walk away, as it wasn't meant to be basically. There is Apparently another 5 people booked in to see it, next week , but the broker, has delayed them all until I've made up my mind. hence the 14 day scenario. He seems like a nice bloke, with no pressures on me or my man friend,I took with me, NOT my boyfriend hahah. just someone who knows about cars really
Sounds like a high pressure sales technique...it's a well trodden road i m afraid

A PVC might suit better? Easier to drive? There’s a Timberland van in the classifieds with three belted seats. Could be ok if only one child?

I wouldn't spend 25k on a 2002 autotrail mohican when you can get this one for around the same price

Sadly, far to expensive for me, albeit, this is the right size engine, but too expensive, and the owners will not come down, as I've spoken to them a couple of weeks ago. But thank you anyway for your time

I’m late to your problem as I have just returned from a trip abroad, and I would just like to make a couple of points if you don’t mind.

We purchased from very good dealer the original dealer I made Home that we knew well, sorry the make we knew well, it like yours sat around for several years doing nothing much, this was before Covid. The reason being the owner was in his 90s. It had only done 9000 miles when we bought it and it was nine years old I think as a precaution, we took it to our Mercedes dealer And asked him to change all oils belts et cetera completely to start again with a new fresh set, for peace of mind as we did a lot of mileage. It cost us just under £2000 at the time. The actual motorhome itself, internally and externally were in superb condition, it was a top of the range model.

Every time we went away, we ended up on Honolulu loader going to a Mercedes garage abroad, we got to know them well around the country France. Never was anything that cost a lot of money. It was always very small things that were basic costs a few pennies but the time trying to find out the problem was very expensive.

We did everything we thought was right, we like you we’re not mechanical people, we took the precautions we thought right but it ruined the holiday every time we sold it.

Ours was Not as old as yours, and in your position, I would walk away.

Because no amount of tests et cetera that you have done to Wahn you as a little things that happen that are not found till later for your own peace of mind look for something a lot newer with proven track record that’s not been standing, especially during Covid

My advice would be the opposite. Look for something a lot older with less electronics etc .

Most of the time these days the faults are down to sensors or electronic controls etc.

My current van is 26 years old ..it had done a mere 60k Miles when I bought it. Apart from a dodgy earth connection and a sticky brake caliper it's done 12k miles in the last 8 months with no problems.

Thank you, your absolutely right on the above, but owner wont budge on price, I've asked for wiggle room, and also if the value is decreased, the broker wont give me a 6 month warranty on the van. That is the caveat, so obviously owner has to pay commission on the sale to brokerage
Are you buying through motorhomedepot.com? If so they get all that done or it looks bad on them selling a van without the right certificates.

Uberleisure are not far from you, they say 'trade only' but what they mean is 'no returns' (although i did once trade in one i had bought from them for another motorhome)

i have had two motorhomes from them, very well priced, they tend to 'get' older motorhomes that the big dealers have taken on part ex but dont want to sell them themselves. you can check the motorhomes out including all the toys they come with and even have a test drive. i would be very happy buying from them again if i ever changed and they had what i wanted though i would obviously recommend you go over everything before you commit, including getting your sil to crawl underneath with a torch and camera! as you get the reg number, its important to check mot history before going as no point even looking at one that has reported issues that have been ignored/neglected

We sold via motorhomdepot and had to get hab check, vehicle service and MOT for 12 months (there was only 2 months left on MOT) at the garage they specified and at our cost. We had receipts for earlier services, belt changes etc so that was all good.

I was happy to do that and pay for it as if we had sold privately I would have suggested to the buyer they chose a garage for the work to be done at our cost.

By getting the checks done it meant MHD offered a warranty.

Downside to that is you get new mot done then motorhome depot take 6months to sell it .

Might be an idea to tell us what you’re looking for - budget, how many adults & children it has to sleep (and drive with, if different). Do you want a fixed bed for yourself? And so on…

That seems to good to be true
But not having read any post after this one I would say it’s worth a look

Even when the stealers do all those Checks you will still find nasties lurking , and some dealers forge the checks , so you have to go over the vehicle with a fine toothcomb ...
Rude!

Nice little vans. We had one as our first van. Took the grandkids out and parents. 6 belts and 5 berth. The overcab is big enough to sit up in and sleeps 2 adults ok but you do have to climb over each other. Same as the dinette 2 adults but climbing over and one long bench. Not much privacy but hey ho is just family and can be fun. Nice compact swing bathroom and kitchen by the door. Front seats don't swivel though but you could put a toddler in bed there with some adaptation.
Add a quest pop up which will fit in the rear under locker and you will have lots of space for kids etc and family sit arounds
