Just had invitation from my suppling dealer to have my first Hab/Damp/Leak check. They tell me unless these checks are done my warranty be invalid! How can this be? I
If I bought a brand new washing machine and it went wrong in the first year I would be covered by the Sale of Goods Act and the supplier would have it put right or replace it.

HOW MUCH ? ************************************* £599

Welcome to the world of motor-homing .
Some dealers will want to empty your pockets as quickly as possible after you have purchased your van and they have your money in the bank .
My dealer EmmBee Ltd ((Laika) tried this on me this year and I quickly moved to another Laika dealer offering a much better value hab/ damp price.

Suggest up you shop around and even think about doing your warranty checks in Europe if your travelling there.

Emmbee Ltd and the like are for me the bandit side of the business and they will suffer long term.

Hi, every year I have a habitation check this includes a damp check for the warranty. Dealers are usually not as cheap as local mobile caravan/MH servicers. I'm nr Peterborough I use Happy Caravan company / Melton tourers. They always do a good job for me.

What have you bought ?

We took an extended warranty and had to get a habitation service done to qualify along with damp check £399 Carthago at Camper UK but this will be the last one.☹️

Is a moho not the same as a car (never had a brand new moho), in so much that the servicing / hab checks does not need to be done by a main dealer.
As long as it is done by a qualified person who is able to put the relevant stamp in your service book.
Thinking of mobile technicians or another moho/caravan dealer.. After all it is a hab check so what is the difference between the habitation area of a motor home and a caravan.
IMV too many poeple have unfounded loyalty to the garage/dealer that they bought their car/moho from

I've never had a habitation check but IF it's being done to preserve ones warranty, IF a fault is found, would it not be covered by that same warranty???

How can they charge for checking their own workmanship 🤷‍♂️

Plus I would argue in court that my qualifications cover the requirement threshold of the checks being carried out by 'a competent person'

The Hymer stamp is an electronic one no book required

Oki doki... So can anybody plant this magic electronic stamp or is it a case of rip off Hymer... You can only be serviced by us ????

Has to be done by a Hymer dealer at least my dealer price is a reasonable £60.
If please may I ask Lenny HB if I may probe further.
You have always praised foreign dealers for your Hymers saying Germany is so much better at producing and building quality motorhomes and you would never buy an inferior UK motorhome.
So are you now saying you trust inferior UK dealers to service your Motor home for £60.00 OR DO you take it back to Germany for its service.
Intrigued..

Take it to my Belgium dealer, UK dealers want depending on the dealer between £135 to £275.

No you can have the MoHo serviced anywhere, for the warranty I believe you only need the damp test undertaken by a dealer not a habitation check but others may correct me in this

Hymer do not require a habitation service at all to maintain their warranty, despite what some dealers may say. All they require is a damp check and underspray (not if that latter requirement still applies) which has to be done by a Hymer dealer.

The dealer then enters the details in Hymer's computer system and prints out a copy for the owner.

These dealers have highly trained staff that can check for damp and if found can find any excuse under the sun why it's not the build quality but the customer putting a Funster sticker on a window etc.
Its not easy to read 1001 dealer excuses every night before bed.

If it was me and it was a PVC then I would be saving the £600 a year and taking my chances. Most stuff is easy to check anyway for problems.
TBH you're unlikely to get damp issues in a PVC
We paid £175 for our first year warranty hab check which took the dealer 90 mins (I waited while it was carried out)
Maybe I'll set up a mobile hab check business then I could rake in the equivalent of £116 / hour, and still be cheaper than most dealers 🤔

We had the same, first year I took it back for a check, as we live near Nottingham I took it that the dealership was some relation to Robin Hood as they charged me £520, Robin B@s….., this year got my local mobile guy to do it and then my local garage to do the mechanical service £280 all up, I won’t be using the dealer again!

Minus fuel, vehicle, insurance, tools, certification, tax, travel time and any other cost to supply the service. The OP was overcharged for sure, but the price we pay is not the amount a supplier profits.
