Adria Twin 640 SLB
I have just had my habitation check done at the same time as my first MOT. Stupidly, I didn't ask the price before hand, I thought it was about £80-100. I have just picked it up and they charged £258 + VAT! I was absolutely astounded. I just feel a bit ripped off tbh. My own fault for not checking but the guy was saying it took at least 4 hours and they did 40+ tests, etc. I am sure the last one I had done was less than £100.

I am curious, what do people pay for their Hab check?

Paid £160 for ours, done on drive by mobile registered chap so cost includes his travel. . 2/3 hours work checking everything electrical and gas operated. Feel happy that these things are safe. New gas pigtail as it was out of date. Personal choice to have it done every year. 12 year old van from new and happy to have it checked. We used to use our dealer but involved a drop off drive , leave overnight and collect next day due to distance. Can post the guy I use if anyone is interested. Manchester based but not sure how far he travels.

Just had mine done on Adria Twin - £279. Hardly a bargain, but I think if I was looking to buy my 1 year old van, I’d place some value on a timely hab check by an approved main dealer.

Blimey - these costs mount up.
5 years of checks …. £1000 - £1500 say….?

How many vans need that amount of repairs in their first 5 years ownership ? I get that it might prevent future issues but feels a little like an extended warranty from Currys - you’re paying in advance whether you need it or not

Never had a hab service only get my damp check done yearly for damp warranty, I know dealers will tell you you need it but have a good read at your warranty book and I bet you don’t. As for a gas check the minute you change a bottle that check is worthless, I bet no one gets a gas check every time they change a bottle.

To maintain the warranty on our Rapido a Damp check is needed, NOT a full Hab check, we did have the full hab check done for a long time till i realised and now pay just for the damp check each year at £90. I know if something is not working as i am using it and when it don't work then that's a good sign lol.
I still check over the vehicle myself each time i use it as i am very fussy and i won't leave anything broken, as soon as i know about it then i get it fixed.

Adria main dealer last year charged just over £300 local mobile company who are registered with Adria so that I can keep the warranty quoted £165.00 and he’s coming to me

Never had one done, I just do my own and act on anything I need to do 👍🏻
I'm with you on this one PP Bear.
As others have said, "Money for old rope"!
I've got a very good gas leak detector and also a damp check meter and only cost around £40-£50.
Mind you, if your van is new then you will to get this done, possibly, for your warranty. So better not to have a brand new van,eh!

Never had hab check or leaks etc etc. Over the last six years have changed via a main dealer three times. NEVER been asked for a certificate or proof of having anything done.

I thought £140 for our main dealer hab check was high to maintain the warranty. Looks like ours is quite a bargain!

I've always believed that it is illegal, in connection with a warranty, to insist that required services must be carried out only by the issuing party. So long as the required servicing is done, that is sufficient.

I've been quoted £450 with water ingress test I was shocked too but are they 2 different tests? Would like to keep tests up to date for warranty but it's getting expensive hab CHECK not test seems to be common sense. Any thoughts? 💭

A damp check will just test for water ingress whereas a hab check will check gas / smoke alarms etc etc as well as water ingress

We have a 6m Boxer PVC and use a local mobile Caravan/Motorhome engineer for Habitation check. Cost £130 last month.

Our first damp check (Carthago) comes up in 3 weeks.

Not too bothered to check the price as it has to be paid anyway. Our previous Carthago we paid annually for the check. The last one, when we left the dealer and could not identify a single item being moved. A couple of days later we turned on the exterior shower. The head had split in frost a few months earlier. They clearly had not checked that.

I view the damp check like a tax.

Nice to know we are in West Brom how much notice does your son need.
He’s getting busy but worth asking. His phone number is 07597 573706. 👍

For the first 2 years we do the full inspection after that just the damp check.
Guess it’s a personal choice, but I can tell if something is broken 🙄. All I worry about is protection of both the parts warranty then the ingress warranty. Neither need anything more than an annual damp test regardless what Dealers tell you and confirmed in writing by Morelo Schlusselfeld

All my motorhomes have been second hand buys from private individuals. (Couldn’t afford new. 😉)
I used to get regular hab checks on the first one but gradually went to ‘occasionally’, and then ‘hardly ever’. I have always had a professional hab check done before selling my motorhomes to provide evidence to help with the sale. (I’ve always sold privately, too.) Before committing to buying a motorhome I will ask to see absolutely everything working as it should. Once in use by me, I very soon become aware if something isn’t working correctly and/or needs attention.
I can totally understand that people owning new motorhomes need to have some checks done as part of their warranty conditions. Thankfully, that doesn’t apply in my case.
I have a damp meter and I have grown comfortably confident in using it over the years.
As for the gas? Well, as someone pointed out, if you have high concerns, then you really would need a test every time you changed a bottle or refilled a refillable cylinder or tank. Where would it end? Having said that, if anything went wrong with a cooker burner or the fridge or water/space heater on gas setting, then I would have it professionally examined and fixed.
I do regularly test my smoke and carbon monoxide sensors and alarms to ensure that they are working properly.

£185 (incl VAT) a fortnight ago. Mobile but approved engineer. Interestingly only did a ‘visual’ damp check on our PVC this year whereas last year we got recorded readings, so I am guessing his meter was forgotten/lost. I didn’t see him as I was out but the OH reckoned he was only here about 1.5hrs.
