I bought the motorhome just over 8 months ago now, It came with a damp and gas hab check which was already 2 months old so it is coming up soon for the year. Question is do I need to do this? Ive only done about 3000 miles in it, just had a full service and Mot last month, Is this like the MOT as a requirement or just a re selling factor? Could do without the hassle of it right now to be honest.

Never had one in 10 years since the van was new so must have saved £2,000 👍
It's an excercise in collecting money mostly, most professionals are incompetent so I try to keep them off my stuff as much as possible.

For peace of mind I used to have an annual habitation check done but the garage I used closed after struggling through the pandemic.
Thinking about this I have enough experience to know something isn’t right and needs fixing within my limits. As others have said the money spent on the checks is better spent on our travels.

Hymers don't need a hab check for the warranty, we have had 3 Hymers from new never had a hab check on any of them, warranty work was never a problem.

We just had the damp check done for the water ingress warranty.
Will do the same with the current Carthago.

Different with Brit vans where they insist on both hab & damp check to cover the water ingress warranty.

When we bought our van, a lot of years ago with 600 miles on the clock, we were told it had Fiat and Lunar warranties.
Later I visited the lunar stand at nec and mentioned this. The commercial director suggested that I read the warranty again as it only related to the original purchaser.
Never thrown any more money at dealers workshops since.
