Vert'tige Aventure

Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks in France

Sorry about huge font above! If you do a search on the above you’ll find there’s lots of activity centres in France.

Some cater for motorhomes. We stayed at one on the way home - the activities were closed but it looked to be great fun. Swimming pool, zip wires, pony riding, mountain bike tracks, walkways and pods up in the trees with tables and benches inside, etc, etc.

Fantastic fun all in a forest.
Will check these out. 💖

so, i assume you will be using the tunnel or Dover Calais crossing (as youre in Cheshire) and heading to Macon?

Disney is an obvious suggestion, looking at your potential route, so i will make it LOL !!
Ferry as he has never been on one and I am not so keen on the tunnel 🙈🤣

Funnily enough kids that age are all into call of duty and fifa on playstation mine certainly was and still is, so my plan was to take my son to follow in the foot steps of Band of Brothers 101st airborne and take in a few games in Germany at the same time.
You could take him to Normandy to see the landing beaches and all the museums and if you are in Germany there is a great 4 team pre season tournament at the allianz with Bayern Munich and 3 other top european teams.

your second stop after Disney Paris (or leave Disney until on the way home?) and do this first. check the website, looks to have an attached campsite aswell.

CLs & CSs aren’t, on the whole, the places for kids, they need action not boring things adults do!
Wait until the 11yr old grows up and can do their own thing then you can swan off in your MoHo and your thing!

And that's what I would say too but it's meant to be fun and relaxing...it doesn't feel that way at the moment. I loved camping in France as a child and really wanted him to enjoy it too.
Just get him to wear the VR headset most of the time that way he won’t notice he is an a 5 star Motorhome. Better still take him winter walking and camping ⛺️ he may just start to appreciate a luxury MoHo. But then again it’s not my child and none of my business hope whatever you decide it works for you and the family.

I once took a Girlfriend Camping she said it made her feel dirty ! No way was I going to compromise being ‘out there’ for anyone so she was rejected by the following week (Harsh but true). When I met my wife we were out and about her hair got wet, when we got back to the car she just used the hot air vent to dry her hair the best she could ( I was smitten and new she was the one) and we have spent a life time camping walking hiking traveling and now a Motorhome but will use a tent as needed

Yes, that’s the place. We loved it it’s a cyclist’s paradise!
We had a few days there last October on our slow meander down to Spain and Portugal. Hired bikes from one of the many outlets. Safe cycle paths everywhere. Was a fun way of seeing the island.

Stop pandering to him.

When i was 11 i did what i was told. When i reached 16 i was considered an adult and then could make my own choices to an extent.
Sometimes I have to wonder on here, we have more than half the people on here pandering to dogs, buying motorhomes just so as they can take them with them, going where the dogs wil be allowed and spending a fortune on tunnel and vets and stuff but when it comes to your own flesh and blood, the future of this world, they can't have a bit of what they want.
When our kids were small we would never have dreamed of going anywhere they didn't want to go, holidays were for the kids not us, we got our enjoyment seeing that they were happy.
And they have turned out ok thanks.

Take the Dover ferry to break up the travel, if he is into trains I could organise a trip on RH&D railway, visit to the engine shed also. Should b able to park overnight if u pm me. Or little Switzerland campsite right on the beach.

New forest sights. These are always interesting

They would argue we have a generation of entitled OAP’s who had their degrees and education paid for with bumper pensions and cheap house prices with affordable energy prices.

Aka spoiled.

The future is not rosy for the teens of today, one thing they won’t be is spoiled.
They already have been,,Not their fault though,,,Parents,,BUSBY.

You can do both though...

We have 5 children, all of whom have had wonderful holidays with us. They're adults now and we have a dog. We love our dog and we bought caravans then motorhomes just so that he can travel with us - we never travel without him.

We get tremendous enjoyment from him - it's not a one-way-thing.

We actually visited this place in Macon in 2018 but he was too young to do anything. He's taller and older now so definitely looks a good idea. I had forgotten all about it. What is RH&D railway? Forgive my ignorance!

We took a reluctant 8 year old to France. Normandy beaches, down to Puy du Fou, onto the west coast, then cross country for two days at Disneyland. Never another complaint about going away.

You sound like a caring Dad who is feeling disappointed and your son sounds like a normal 11 year old. My 3 loved our trailer tent at that age plus Eurocamp holidays to France and Spain, playing out side etc but in decent weather. Obviously we’d get some bad weather but it wasn’t endless and it would be Spring and Summer. We advanced onto statics once teenage daughter needed a hairdryer plus a bit more privacy from the younger brothers!

We did organise ourselves around their needs, we chose to have them, we’d go to sites with facilities like a pool. They’d soon make friends.

Walking in the Lakes in the rain doesn’t appeal to many 11 year olds to be honest, they want others their own age. The ones who just want to be with Mum and Dad are a minority, it’s just the way it is.
I’d try an all singing all dancing site if you can with a mate, it might not be your cup of tea but if he’s having fun you can relax in the sun with a beer. You might get the odd day out to visit the odd interesting thing as a compromise. We did Puy de Fou a few times.
Then near Barcelona we went to Nou Camp, even Claire and I were happy because we saw Thierry Henri!

I think you may have got your timing wrong with trips in the cold and wet. I’m still a wimp and wouldn’t have liked it either. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply... I am Mum! He is no different to his friends and when he met Antoine Griezmann's parents in a supermarche in Macon he was thrilled!

I wouldn't give up on the van yet.

Better weather is coming and camping is always more fun for everyone when the sun is shining.

There are some good (though expensive) sites on the Costa Brava with loads of stuff for the kids to do and the same in the South of France I am sure.

Closer to home there is St Ives where he can go surfing or body boarding. As chaser says the Haven sites are designed for kids.

We always packed the Play Station as a back up.

Persevere with him.

Good luck(y)

Thank you. This is why I joined MH Fun...he loves his tech ...no surprise there. But he also plays cricket for our village. He will generally try most things. We are supposed to be heading to my friend's house in Chenas Macon
If you want to really entertain all ages but most importantly your 11 year old, go to Austria , park the MH in Ried or Ladis campsite , then enjoy the vast variety of bespoke entertainment they have on offer , it really is mind blowing , look up the summer activities at Serfaus , Fiss and Ladis, besides stunning scenery there is just so much to do, our Kids love it!

So surprised that people pack the Playstation 😂 I thought I would get flamed if I suggested it!

Why? That's what kids like, depriving them of it is not conjusive to a happy holiday.

If you can build attending a stage of the Tour de France into your trip that might be good fun . We have done it quite a few times, if you find the right one you can often park with other motorhomes and watch the action , lots of things to watch, it is such a great spectacle.

France is also great for cycling with miles of traffic free routes .

Terribly sorry, it’s mainly men on here so I made an assumption. I should know better! I have given myself a good slapping.

The plan was to go from around the 15th August..
Have you actually asked your son what or where he wants to go, if so are none of his suggestions acceptable to you.
Go where he wants to go then slowly introduce a few things that you would like.

This entire problem can be solved with a few well planned trips .
You need to sell the idea to your son , so far this hasn’t happened .
Not one person on this forum ever purchased a motorhome ! Eh ? Well let me explain .
We don’t buy the motorhome, we buy the benefits that motorhome ownership provides.
Freedom , access to warmer weather in the winter , a comfortable place to relax on a long journey etc .
Get a trip booked and go to Alton towers . He will soon understand it’s not all about sitting inside all day .
