Guess which item you should pack in your motorhome, but probably don't

Very good advice.
We use a bag to take items of clothing from the house to the van, and it stays in the van. Just in case!

Tony

We usually have 3-4 large shopping bags, not zipped but gaffer tape would solve that

Greeks call them 'Turkish suitcases;.

It's a simple thing.

One of the joys of travelling in a motorhome as opposed to a plane is that we don't have to live out of a suitcase. It's brilliant; we have a locker for everything, and everything is in its place.

When I travel, everything goes in lockers/cupboards all my computer gear and camera gear goes in an overhead locker. All my clothes, shoes etc in a locker. My washing and shaving kit, in the bathroom cupboard. All Siân's clothes in a wardrobe, jewellery in the safe etc.

However, we learned from experience that motorhomes sometime breakdown or you are involved in an accident, one day you may have no choice but to leave your motorhome.

That was us, it was midnight, and we were having to leave our vehicle in a compound for a few days when we discovered we didn't have a single bag on board. What a pain that was!

We now ensure we carry two of those large Chinese zipped shopping/laundry bags, they take no room rolled and wedged under a seat, but if we ever have to vacate our van again a hurry, we'll be glad of those bags to remove clothes and valuables.
I wonder what would happen if you got pulled for checking as we did at Portsmouth last year, he said bring two bags inside for scanning. We had the one for the boat and my wife’s craft bag which he then scanned. What was obvious on the picture was a big pair of scissors so what was the point of doing it and what were they looking for.

I pack two large beach bags and cool bags, loads of large heavy duty supermarket bags, so I think we’d be ok if we had to leave the van - how many gold stars do I get?

If Mrs KNWH had to remove all her clothes and other stuff from ours, then we would need another Motorhome to hold it all 🙁

I think 1 bag would do us, I mean Mrs Westhamman could only carry one bag, the dog lead and torch in the other, I would carry something but why break the habit of a lifetime according to you guessed it Mrs Westhamman.
I might use extra large but wouldn't be able to pack much in one.

And here I was expecting a revelation passed down from on high.
I think they breed in our van - lift up a cushion and there's another.

Two bags hahaha, you've clearly never seen what my lovely wife brings into the motorhome.
Two large 1 ton super sack wouldn't be enough.
When we had our yacht out in Greece I had been out for 6 weeks sailing around various islands, the Plan was that Chris would fly into Kefelonia, I would pick her up there then we would take 2 weeks to sail back up to Corfu from where she would then fly back home.
Chris had packed 14 pairs of shoes, in total I was on the boat for 10 weeks and possessed one pair of deck shoes and a pair of sandals.

When I used to live in Hong Kong they were known as "Filipino Handbags"

And yes, we carry two

I wasn't far off then , added advantage you can put your stuff all in one zip up bag :)

IF I'm understanding this correctly, the only thing we all need is Jim's private phone number and, being the kind person he is, if anyone gets into an emergency, all we have to do is give him a call and he'll do the rest.

It would be wasteful if the bags that he already has, sat around all year and not being used? 😄

best be that Jim publishes his number here then, sorted.

Interesting you should say that, we find the waste bin on the habitation door extremely useful.
Well it might just be our van, but it's two steps down to the habitation door and the bin is mounted very low so the top is below floor when standing in the main body of the van. If you drop down a step you are too close to the door and reaching down from floor level is a back breaker or a kneeling job. Leave the van, turn around with the door still open, and it's then the ideal height for picking up an empty bag.

Suitcases.

We have had them for years. Small collapsable ones. Just enough to take what you need and airline cabin compliant, just in-case.
Bet thay aren't now if you've had them years check the measurements. I have a big soft back pack just in case , but saying that, there nothing in the van I'd bothered about leaving.

Ah, ok that makes sense then. We use ours while outside the van when it is at a perfect height. From inside it would be almost impossible.

Good suggestion Jim. We broke down last year and were stuck for nearly 3 weeks but luckily it was at a campsite. Had we been stuck in a hotel we would have checked in carrying several shopping bags which were the only bags we carry, although I did have a rucksack.

I always carry plenty of garlic (and other seasonings) plus a wooden stake or two, and a crucifix.

These are multipurpose:

A) Spare seasonings of various types can liven up even the most mundane of emergency meals. Plenty of stakes (wooden or otherwise) as extra tie downs for things. And a crucifix for when it all goes really wrong

B) All of the above can be used to fend off Minxy for when she comes after me with her cooking pot plus of course if she succeeds then the seasoning will of course make me taste better
