While the Greek trip is 35 days , some of us are planning on going over to Europe a few weeks prior to the start date and probably staying a few weeks longer

I have just been speaking to ViaMare who are the experts on Greek ferry bookings and they are telling me that space for MHs is very tight, especially if you want 'Camping on deck'.

We just got our return Patras-Ancona for late Oct but had to accept 3 days earlier than planned.

So unless your party have their own bookings sorted, or you have block bookings, or people are willing to drive down through the Balkans, then you better get onto reservations PDQ.

Are you going to campsite or wildcamp? Many campsites close mid-Sept.

We are going to campsites which are all booked and of course OPEN

Many thanks, Graham & Karen

Is this just an informal get together where people pay at cost or are you charging for your expertise?
It’s a rally or as you say an informal ( or formal if you like ) get together, no I don’t charge anyone a penny …. I’m free

Bob

Also maybe interested, was planning on going later over the Christmas, but I suppose I could always go over to Turkey for a while to break up the Schengen.

We did Greece and Crete on our own, last year. A fabulous adventure. However, I'm not convinced a group trip would work for all of the group, all of the time. You just know a disagreement will occur at some stage.

Your not chained together, always free to drop off somewhere. Then meet up further on., what ferry did you use to Crete, what ports and the price please.

Have a look at my thread Greece 2022. It has our stops and pictures and I will be happy to answer any additional questions you have. It will be an awesome trip.

I thought the plan included booking campsites in advance, so if one diverted one would lose the site fee.

For Greece Mainland - Crete there are 3 routes

Piraeus - Chania
Piraeus - Heraklion
Gythio (S Peloponnese - Kassamos (via Kythira and Anti-Kythira)

Oh maybe, have to ask the planner.

Keep meaning to go back to Greece we went September/October as we found out the hard it is was worse time of year for weather. If we do go again it will be April/May.

Going by our own experience, we did a trip to Greece in April/May and it was hot hot hot , but each to their own
Happy Camping

I had my boat in the Saronic Gulf for 30 years and was on it there for most of the April/May periods in those 30 years and did not experience very hot, which I do not like.

So where were you and what was the temperature?

We Landed in Greece around the 10th May last year and the temp was in the low 20's. Perfect for us. We did the whole of June in Crete and it got up to 38 Deg and when we went back to Greece in July it was about the same. A tad uncomfortable. I would think May would be a perfect month if you want warmth that you can be active in.

I’ve recently booked Piraeus - Chania out beginning of May and return Heraklion - Piraeus early June with Anek. MoHo plus 2x 60yrs + with cabin was €564. Likely to travel to Greece again? If you’re booking with Anek sign up for their Smart Card, download the Anek app and link it together with any bookings to gain points/discounts on future travel.

I’m interested in the rally to Greece but looking at this thread it seems that you have all got knowledge of travels abroad.I’m new to this so know nothing about what to book or what documents I might need, plus I’m on my own so wouldn’t like to be left to fend for myself. I’ve been told by Bob that someone arranges everything. I think its the fear of the unknown. It’s my dream to be able to know the route to Spain good enough to go there anytime with my two little Yorkshire terriers. Looking forward to hear more. Take care everyone.

When we went mid September it was only low 30's to start with (stayed at 30 ontil early hours) but after a week dropped to low 20's & loads of rain and worse storms for a 100 years. September & October known as the stormy season.
There is a link to our trip in my signature.

A pic of the road we were parked in, this was September.

I had a look at Anek's website earlier and I think there is quite a lot of space going out from Italy to Greece in October. Looks like it is probably the return leg that is busier?

Were you looking at 'camping on deck', which is what I was referring to?

Even so it could be understandable, as the season is over and most campsites and many tavernas are closed, especially at beach areas. However in the towns and villages one can always find tavernas and Kaphenions open and wildcamping in Greece is easy.
