Grave Lines - too risky?

I heard the Radio 4 report as well. It was mainly about the theft of small boats in the area. I've been there once and would stay again.
Cite Europe is fine as long as you are sensible with usual security precautions, (as I would be at any aire or campsite here or abroad).

I've stayed at gravelines numerous times but have yet to see any invaders there. Tbf it could be anyone pinching the boats and cycling to England from there is only for the really hardy!

Stayed at Gravelines loads of times,no problems!there this week weds/Thursday nights!Nice new restaurant right next to aire now!,

Amused by the reports of stolen bicycles at Gravelines; when we were there last time we met a Brit who had foiled an attempt to steal his very valuable bikes, but he wasn't parked on the official aire. At the aire itself (by the long line of leisure fishing boats) we saw a Belgian (I think) parked on the new grassy area, spread out like a campsite including two bikes just leaning up against his van. And they were still there the following morning! (Incidentally for info, the service point is about half a mile away, signed from the aire).

Not calling anyone untruthful but I think there may be a slight case of exaggeration. We've stopped there several times with absolutely no problems.

Citie Europe also is fine as long as you're sensible about security.

There was a report on radio 2 this morning saying there are a lot of migrants near the beach at gravelines and traffickers supplying kayaks for them to paddle across on !
Not sure if that makes it risky, but I'd probably Look for somewhere else.

That's ok until you hear banjoes.

Staying overnight in proximity with potentially violent people trafficking gangsters who have firearms would not be my idea of idyllic. OK, I will admit that I am more risk-averse than some.
We are the same, we don’t park up any closer than a hundred miles of any crossing overnight. That’s so any potential illegals don’t know if we’re heading for the uk or away from it.

How about the new aire /campsite in Calais, I think its excellent.

Yes very nice. However it's too far away from anything and also quite expensive.
Plenty of less expensive (i.e. free) stopovers less than half an hour away with better location.
Still, if it's what you want, okay by me. I much preferred the old one by the port, even if it was a bit noisy with ferries.

I would not stay at any place where a problem has been reported why take the risk.

Just waiting to get on ferry for Calais, tempted to stop at Grave Lines as quiet and close to port and we stopped their four weeks ago with no problem.

We don’t have any bikes on the rack so is it worth risking it or any better suggestions?
If you are asking the question you will not feel comfortable if you stay there.

It’s a really difficult one. Gravelines was our go-to aire on the way back home. Nearby supermarket and half an hour from the tunnel. However since the attempt on our bikes last year I’m very wary of it . The bikes were massively secured (4 locks) but it was still unsettling.
Ironically the theft of fishing boats and subsequent fishermen patrols probably makes it more secure.

We used to regularly stop at the old Calais aire but it steadily became rougher. About 5 years ago?? we stopped altogether because they were openly dealing drugs in the carpark next to it, a guy in a silver peugeot expert van mostly.

I feel very sorry for the people of Calais these days; in fact there have been TV reports of how much they re suffering because people don't go there anymore.

Been stoping at Grand Fort for many years, this year was the first time I used the new Aire, great location right by the nature reserve. Love the way they have turned WWII bunkers into hides.
This aire isn't on campcontact can somebody at it please so the rest of us can review?

Finish your trip with a meal at Le Turbot at Gravelines, a superb little fish restaurant in the village, they Said they were fully booked when I rang so we just turned up and very politely said we’d be quick, no probs, they fitted us in, the Restaurant Du Beffrois at the Logis hotel on the square in town is also very good and does a great steak and is a lot cheaper. Both are only a few minutes walk from the aire.

Well we survived didn't get raped pillaged much to the disappointment of the wife no fishermen were patrolling with guns.
Didn't see any hid nor hare of any migrants not even any one who could look like one
i am beginning to think that such incidents don't happen or are very few and far between.
I have spoken to a few British motorhomers on our holiday and its a bit like gassing no first hand accounts of any actual serous incidents.
Bit of dramatization of a friend of a friend had their bikes stolen or someone had touched them.
and no first hand reports of migrant hanging to the axle of there van.
