Only just discovered that timeline has disappeared, I haven't seen it discussed anywhere,, but I have had it set up for over ten years and had every campsite and places we had been in it. Now just found it's all been deleted, has no one else found this.?

It’s almost 100% a setting issue on your device rather than a total loss….

If you've had Google backing up you need to go to the back up section and import it.

We briefly experienced a technical issue that caused the deletion of Timeline data for some people. We're reaching out as your account may have been impacted.
If you have encrypted backups enabled, you may be able to restore your data. Make sure that you have the latest version of Google Maps, then go to your Timeline. Tap the cloud icon ( ) near the top of your screen, and choose a backup to import your data. If you did not have backups turned on, unfortunately you will not be able to recover lost data.
We understand that this can be frustrating if you use Timeline to remember places that you've visited, and we are taking steps to improve our systems for the future.

Multiple notification emails from Google over the last 6 months. Now kept on local device(your phone memory) and not in cloud so anytime you change phone you'll have to export from old phone and import into new phone.

Which bring me back to my original post, it will most likely be a setting on your device! I’m assuming you’ve done something about backing up as per Google notifications?

Email to us last night from Google Timeline.

Jeezo! They lost everyone’s timeline!!

I’m assuming people back theirs up… if not, now’s the time to heed the warning! ✔️

I've lost all mine going back years which is a total pain, the worst part is the backup was turned off by Google on one of their updates, so me and most other people were totally unaware that they have lost their timelines.
You could say you need to check your backup is on, but when updates happen in the background you've got no chance.

Omg! Mine are gone too. Backup has always been on. The most recent was 2 days ago. I've got nothing before 7th March!

Mine weren't backed up and they have all gone, too late to bother now. I can't see me doing another 10 years so not bothered about the future but the past would have been nice.

Man that’s more than annoying! I’d be raging! 😤

France used to be a sea of red, a few in Spain and Portugal and Germany .
I never bothered with anything else, nothing wrote down or backedup as I thought I would always be able to go back to it and never thought another word about it till I thought about it this morning where we would go.
Nothing. :( :( :( :(

I have just put mine on my device as I will lose it from May. Unfortunately mine only goes back to the start of 2023.

It is or was quite amazing the amount of people who didn't know it was there, I have shown dozens of folks how to find it and they all used it from them on. My son even used it for putting in his traveling claims, I don't know if he knows it's gone.
On it you could even delve into a bar you used or shops you went in ten years ago.
It was brilliant but now it's gone.

As most of you on here know ,I have always been a big supporter of Google but this last 6 months their mapping has gone to pieces and now this.
I think they have just got too big and got their fingers in too many pies all in the name of profit not for the benefit of the users.

On a related note - when we gave our kids their mobile phones at the age of 12ish, it was on the strict understanding that their google location be shared with us. Fast forward to them being in late teens and we said that we'll continue paying for their sim cards if they leave their location sharing on. They all have left it on. Eldest guy is in Germany for the year and spend a month in Morocco just recently. I sleep a lot better knowing.

Always thought that was their operating principle so have never used any of their products in earnest apart from Maps and Mail.

The former just to get co-ordinates to use in another system and the latter via Thunderbird email client.

I've just done this and recovered my timeline, I have timeline enabled on all my devices and it gave me a choice of which device I wanted to import from. It's worth a try.
