Google maps for France?

Hi all. Are Google maps sufficient for travel in France or do we really need a sat nav? We are not technically savvy

Hello Jock,
I'm familiar with the signs like the first 2 which basically mean "except locals" or "local traffic only" so would indeed permit a visit to the aire or campsite but I have never seen the one with a stylised box truck. I have unfortunately seen signs like the last one in places where they simply want to exclude camping cars. Arcachon seems to have them everywhere near the seafront.
I've looked up the PTAC stuff but it is not relevant to this topic.

I do tend to stick to ring roads/bypasses around towns and villages, rather than go through at 3.49t, but when approaching my (listed) overnight destination, if the only way in is via a 3.5t restriction, I'll take it.

I had it once explained to me by another resident, that the local Mayor has the right to overrule the 3.5t restriction, to allow tourist vehicle access, but not sure how accurate that info is.

Google maps has shown me a lot of very, very rural France!
My van is only 5.4m so that’s not so bad but 2.3 width and 2.2 height restrictions are not possible.
