Where going upto Scotland end of June and was asking if people could give us some good sites esp around the lochs...

Will look at the Isle's & mountain peaks too, all preferably dog friendly as our RFL lurves the water and can sniff it out miles away... Quiet but not just us 3 in a field an noone else for 100 miles and pref near a good local pub too...

Not asking for much am l :giggle:

We're away for around 18 days (3 for travelling up an back with stop overs)

Many thanks in advance,

Think you need to be a tad more specific... there are more than 30,000 lochs in Scotland..
Also many many sites near them but far too many to mention..
My favourites are at Loch Ken and Loch Doon Sites.. ..Also Milarrochy Bay CCC on Loch Lomond and Loch Ness Shores CCC to mention but a few.
Sure you will get plenty more suggestions.
Oh and Bunree CC site on Loch Linnie... never been personally but gets good mentions..
Good luck..
P.S. Pace is very slow once you get into the highlands and islands and that includes travel... 15 days IMO is no where near enough to do what you appear to you are Planning.. you could not even do the Outer Hebrides justice in 15days..👍👍

Thanks for that.... thats a shock as didn't know there was that amount of lochs... we are going to Loch Lomond for a couple of days, looking at Fort William for Ole Ben... was wondering about Bunree as that's popped up a few times too... we looked on Pitchup and CMC as members on them but keep forgetting about CCC as it still reminds me of the Googies for some unknown reason lol but thankyou for those...

We're not retired like some and can't do months away at a time as we're still working hence the 2-3 week period.

Many thanks again thou

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Scotland. We did the NC500 from Inverness around to Ullapool. We also did Skye and then across to Sterling.

Didn't plan any stops, just went with the flow. Found some fantastic stopovers but we didn't use any campsites. We just used Park4night and Search for sites and followed our noses.

If you have or download Polarsteps you can see our route and stops via this link.

Glenmore forest and Loch Morlich are at the foot of the Cairngorms. Also, you can take the van up to the lower Ski centre to get the sense of the hills. Alternatively if you are feeling adventurous, you could park half way up at the lower car park (just before the road commences as series of snake bends) and take a walk over to the Chalamain Gap (I don't recommend that you tackle the gap itself unless properly outfitted as the ground is very rocky and broken in it). Also in the nearby forest you can find the Green Loch (An Lochan Uaine) which is a gentle walk from the Outdoor centre in the direction of the Ryvoan pass.

Enjoy your trip

If you are wanting see Ben Nevis then you can’t get any closer , has its own bar and restaurant and is easy walk into town and for bus up into Glen Nevis which has amazing walks,

Bunree is quite a bit out from Fort William and you will need to drive ( wouldn’t cycle or walk it if that’s an option you are considering as the road is tight twisty and busy) but is a lovely site right on the shores of Loch Linnhe.

Top tip there re Bunree from Bobbydaisy, also if parking in Ft William ( large carpark as you enter the centre of the town on your left (loch side) coming from Bunree) make sure you buy a ticket (and it's visible) as the wardens do check them and dish out fines.

If you go to the Glen Nevis site and want a trip out, drive as far as you can towards the end of the Glen (weight restricted bridge) and walk from that car park up to the Steall Flats to view the An Steall waterfall (boots needed as part of the path near the water of Nevis is narrow and damp).

In the U.K. you really should use searchforsites. I’d recommend Millport for a few days, great cycling round the island, a few local pubs, nice scenery and it sits in the Gulf Stream so usually better weather than the mainland. Arran island is lovely too though more costlier on ferry fares.

Yeah that’s a great walk , over the famous Rope Bridge , basically a cable you walk on over the river 😲, then to the waterfall. You can ford the river though if you’re not brave enough, or look at the waterfall without crossing it . A visit to Glenfinnan to see the Bonnie Prince Charlie monument and visitor centre with Motorhome parking and the famous Viaduct from Harry Potter movies , time it right and you will see the Jacobite steam train ( the Hogwarts express) cross it.

On our very first proper adventure since buying the Motorhome in 2020 (previously only did two or three campsites each holiday).

Since April 24th we have had 1 night Loch Lomonond, 1 night Glencoe, 2 nights Oban
1 week on Mull, 1 week on Outer Hebrides, 4 days NC500 Ullapool to Stromnes and currently on Orkney.

Actual campsites used; 1 night Glencoe, two campsites for duration on Mull, 2 nights at one campsite Outer Hebrides. No campsites used at Loch Lomond, Oban most of Outer Hebrides and since leaving Stornaway.

Scotland is sooooooo geared up for motorhomes with either loads of free places or recommended cheap donations to stop overnight, many with various facilities and not necessarily roadside, we have been blown away by the ease of it. (One example; Loch Lomond, Tarbet pier has two dedicated Motorhome spaces overlooking the Loch with fresh water, black waste disposal and toilets. Cost £4 to the forestry commission).

We have pretty much relied on park4night although we do have other apps.

Currently on our third day in Orkney. Last night we were parked in a small car park on our own beside the beach at the end of a dead end lane next to a toilet block. The day before we were in a small car park, again at the end of a short dead end road, in a RSPB Nature reserve along with two other small vans and stunning views. Both free of charge and no restrictions.

Our Motorhome is a Swift Escape 7.4m long and I have driven down so many miles of single track road but there are an abundance of passing places and I have only had to reverse (just a few yards) twice!

Finally, because of the ease of the above, we have never needed to prebook anything (other than Mull) and are literally planning our stops on a daily basis. The only thing to keep an eye on this time of year are the ferries, they have been incredibly busy since a week ago so you need to have an idea of when you want to travel between islands and book a few days to a week in advance.

Currently at Ardmair Point, north of Ullapool, overlooking the bay. Lovely views from the site and epic scenery all around. Doing NC500 anti-clockwise and found plenty of easy park ups (searchforsites app and stumbled across more). Surprised nobody has mentioned you don’t need to worry about being lonely by any lochside in June, you’ll be the best takeaway for millions of midges, so Avon skin so soft and midge nets are VITAL!😂🥴

Pleasant surprise for us - at many places, diesel cheaper than unleaded and prices around 143/litre, although filled up at Tesco in Wick at 133/litre!

Nice one many thanks for this, was wondering about the free spaces and cheap overnighter as we've heard about them but knowing our luck they'd all be taken up... its our first real time away (weeks wise) so mainly doing the sires till we get uses to it all....
Again many thanks much appreciated... 👍

Milarrochy CCC site …. we went last year and are going back this year! Great for entering the Loch with paddle boards, canoes etc … if your luck you can get a pitch over looking the Loch👍🏻😉
