We have just up plated our carthago compactline from 3650 to 4000 by adding rear air and up rated kilen front springs. Emailed insurers NFU yesterday to let them know and got a call today saying it's reduced the premium and I'm due a refund of £31. Not huge amount but a little pay back on the outlay.

Which rear air/uprated front springs did you go for?

Edit - I see Kilen is a suspension spring make, didn’t know that. I’m guessing air was VB?

We’re contemplating the same but VB uprated springs along with the rear air, also on Alko chassis.
Killen were £3/400 cheaper, had them on my last van for 5 years with no issues. SV TECH don't mind what ones so long as they can handle 1960kg.

I would be interested to know what the V5C shows for J: Vehicle Category now and has it been changed from what it was before the up-plating please?

That should remain as M1 as I'm only changing revenue weight but will let you know once DVLA return V5.

Which wheels were they? The standard Fiat alloys from the light chassis?

Edit: looking at your avatar pic, maybe not?
No I think they are up rated with 130 PCP Lenny HB will know.

Can you not plate at 4200kg? 2240 rear and 1960 front. I know you are unlikely to get anything near 1960kg in weight over the front axle but ........

Can I ask who fitted the VB and a rough cost please

I believe light chassis 4000 is max.

SAP and around 2.5k all in.
But you have 2240 on the rear and 1960 on the front. That's 4200. That is the limit on the light chassis with uprated fron springs, rear air and the heavy wheels. It's academic I suppose as you will never get near to having 1960 kg on the front of the van anyway.
Thanks for the info.

Well that's all SV TECH would give and no ill never get near 1960 the 2240 on rear is most important.

You can (or could?) take the light chassis to 4,250....we did with our Rapido.
We already had suitable wheels and tyres, and after fitting rear air and uprated front sprigs, SV Tech said we could go to 4,000 (front 1,950, rear 2,240), But interestingly John Ruffles was happy to sign off on 4,250 (front 2,000, rear 2,250). JR is no longer with us, but if you're not happy with the SV Tech numbers, you could get a second opinion from Van Weight Engineering.

No we are happy and VWE not currently allowed to do any whilst they being audited and recertified from another thread. Not sure who John ruffles is or was. Maybe newer chassis can't go as high or its a different model one.

Thanks for responding.

Agreed, as M1 does not have an upper weight limit whilst N1 has a limit of 3500kg. It's my belief that N1 vehicles converted to Motor Caravan and up plated beyond 3500kg should automatically become M1 but the DVLA seem to have different ideas.

Same as ours. VWE recently did ours up to 4000kg (y) Axle weight is what each axle can carry but the mass is what the vehicle can carry safely overall. I think I have got that right:unsure:
