Does anyone know of a good golf course that has camping facilities for a motorhome. Or a campsite that has links to a good golf course. We live in North Wales on the border near to Chester happy to travel about an hour approx?

Look up Lancaster golf club Ashton hall, there is Ashton hall caravan/motorhome campsite next door near to Ashton hall garden centre garden centre.
I'd have thought that as many links courses are by the sea, and many campsites are also by the sea,
Show my ignorance time AGAIN, and my excuse is I ain't no golfer, but I was always under the impression that the definition of a Links Coarse was one on the sandy/dunes of the coast.
So what defines the ones not by the sea??

Just asked John, thinks it is to do with the lie of the land and some areas which were originally by the sea but are not now, but he isn't sure and is too busy watching sport to check 😂
Don’t want to jump on the thread but would there be any interest in a Funster Golf Weekend?
John would be interested in a golf meet, I would be interested in the 19th hole.

Courses not next to the coast are usually classified as Parkland courses.
Some courses that where originally built as a 9 hole Links and then extended inland to 18holes are often a mix of the 2
Abersoch and Pwllheli are examples of this.

You are correct. Unfortunately however, like many things in life, there are several definitions of Links Courses. I blame the Americans 😉

Whilst a 'true' links would traditionally have had to be by the sea it's now used as a general term to describe any course with links characteristics i.e. hard sandy ground that encourages a bump and run style of golf over the soft receptive greens and flat fairways, also deep pocket bunkers and a sand dune type landscape.

Heathland, more usually further inland, has low shrub type growth and in Parkland golf mature trees would be more common.

Having said all that, any golf course can now be described as a golf links regardless of it's nature as it's also used as a generic term for a collection of holes for golf.

'A good golf course'?

Would that be one that challenges a scratch player or one that flatters a 20 handicap?

We stayed here (a few years ago now) but it was a lovely little campsite, very friendly staff. Nice walks, dog friendly, didn't go for the golf so can't comment on that, but maybe worth a look

Riverside campsite in Betws y coed has a nine hole next door with a bar and a short walk into betws y coed.
Uphill marina in Weston super mare has a course very close by.

Thinking of that myself.
There was a North Wales site advertising that they where welcoming MH's on their website - can't remember which but it will come to me.
Bentham Golf is close to Riverside Caravan Park on the edge of the lakes.

I'm up for it.
Found it,
Aberystwyth!

The term links comes about as the original golf courses in Scotland were laid out on the coastal area between the sea and the land as it's well drained and harder under foot. The name is derived from hlincs which means ridge (at the seaside).

Caravan Club has an affiliated site at Harlech, literally beside the wonderful course.
Just south outside the town are at least a couple of CLs in great locations.

Have a look at Aberdovey or Borth, both links courses with many camp sites nearby.

Royal St David's course at Harlech, right across the road from the Min Y Don site
