Goldy makes a come back

Wow, great to hear that they would like to start manufacturing these bikes back in their original home of Birmingham. That would be a fantastic story.
I would definitely like to try one of them as the originals were just a little before my riding days began.
I started on a GT 250 ram air.

Listening to that interview it looks like there could be some of the manufacture/assembly done in the UK eventually. If I ever get my licence back I would consider downsizing from my Wing to something like this or an Enfield or a Triumph.

Did yours have the curious hesitation on a partial low throttle opening?
Mine suffered with that, I tried swapping carbs, coils, and all sorts. Eventually the cure was found in an after market [ Piranha ???} electronic timing gizmo that done away with points I think, from memory. I had the metallic blue one.
Mike.

Yes mine did exactly what you describe. I was an apprentice panel basher back then and all the mechanics tried various things with it. We found escort Mexico plugs seemed to cure it for a while but didn’t last long.
Mine was a gold ish colour. When I sold it the man who bought it wrapped it around a lamppost after just one week of ownership. The helmet I gave him became a hanging basket.

Yes, winding the throttle open to hear them get on the pipes was addictive, and the cause of many points on licences!!
Mike.

Just 45 BHP from a modern 650cc bike? They are having a laugh! The Gold Star I once drove with the RRT2 box was like a scalded cat- once the clutch was fully home having slipped it to get to 20 miles per hour!

The original 650 twin was the Gold Flash. The Gold Star was, as mentioned on here, the DND34. My mates brother had one and traded it for a 7R AJS. Looking at Stealaway's BSA pic, I think I'd prefer the shiny Vincent in the background.

I always the Rocket Goldie was an handsome alternative

There were/are quite a few "fake" Rocket Goldies which were just Road Rockets made to look like genuine ones. The proper ones had the Rocket engine in a Gold Star frame identifiable by the kink in the lower frame tube to clear the oil pump.

That was an old wives tale. They were the fakes.
BSA had loads of non Gold star frames they could use when they put together the genuine RGS.

The Gold Star frame used on the Rocket Gold Star has a frame number prefixed GA10. All other A10s have a frame number prefixed A7, including the 1957 Gold Star framed Spitfire Scrambler.[6] The Gold Star singles required a kink in the bottom run of the frame to clear the oil pump. The kink is not present on the RGS frames.[4]

The total Rocket Gold Star production was 1,584 bikes, of which 272 were off-road scramblers. Most were finished in red, but a few were manufactured in black or silver.[5] The model was also known as the Gold Star Twin.

I'll take money the new BSA wont keep up with my 58 Venom (not a Thruxton). Re oil leaks apparentlythe North Sea industry was started to recover the oil leaked from british bikes, having a fair few different ones over the years I can well believe it......

Re-oil leaks, I think the commonly used phrase was “They all do that sir”
Ive just rebuilt an AJS engine and, yes it leaks oil
It was always said the time to worry was when it stopped leaking (cos it usually meant the oil had run out)

Hence the renaming of a famous brand to 'Royal Oilfield'...

The ones I had were fitted with GP carbs which seem to have there off days when it came to starting, I notice the one featured here has a Concentric carb fitted for an easy life

BsA , bastards stopped again springs to mind.
When i used to be out on B25 , i couldn't get over the number of guys that told me they used to have a Goldstar, by my reckoning they must have produced a few million of them .
The new one looks ok but its a name only , a bit like the Fiat 500, Mini and Beetle.
Ill be giving it a miss and sticking with what i have.
Ps any information on price? Or did i miss that?

Single cylinder 650 TWIN ?
Typical MCN twaddle
I do really like the look of the bike though
Shame it does not have a separate gear box and is water cooled, but they do have the basic look right..
They have somehow managed to keep the spirit of the bike there............ I would not mind one in the stable thats for sure
Wonder what it weighs ?
It's a single not twin.

Hi.
Have they captured the sound/whistle from around the carb area ? Noises from the past 'ish... RR Merlin at full chat. " BSA Goldy " bark and whistle, last but not least... Scania V8 going up a bank loaded , shifting/playing between gears...... Selective hearing ? ME.... WHAT ???

Being a month behind Yorick, you never saw the original write up :)
It has since been corrected but originally the idiots said it was a 650 twin !!

Hi BSA Goldy's
Cossal Pit. Ilkeston. Scrambles in the 50's. " Jim Burton ?" Raced around on a 350cc Gold Star... IT LOOKED BRAND NEW. ... Loved to see him get to the bottom of the Spoils heap and fire it up to the top,he left them all for Dead. Mate and i used to look at our " Million miles ago " bikes....... I wouldn't have brought my old WW2 Ariel onto the site . Jed also left his Franny Barnet in the car park!! Happy days.

Just to keep the thread going, the new Goldie will be built to a price like the Royal Enfield Interceptor so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up very high, Ok for £6k but bring one back when it's 6yrs old, no thanks I would go for a secondhand Kawasaki W650 any day of the week.
