Going it Alone

HI Jacs,

Really looking forward to meeting you on a rally soon.

Meanwhile that money you just paid for Subs will be returned, and Andy's Life membership has now passed to you.

Best wishes for the future (y)
What a fantasic gesture. Well done Jim.

We only met you and Andy once a while back on a Facts meet. Well done on getting out there again on your own. Maybe we’ll meet up again in the future.

Wow fancy that! I'll look out for you at Drax (y)
A lot of us at Drax…… keep a look out for an odd pair in a Le Voyageur with a smudge hound …….. welcome for a cuppa

So although I'm not a new member as such, having been the "other half" of Techno ever since we started MHing, I now find myself a solo traveller since his death in January. First, I had to sell our 'van because, as many of you will know if you've followed his posts, it is big and complicated and he never taught me how to do the "man stuff". So it was too much for me to manage and I was lucky enough to sell it to some very good and wonderful friends, also MHF members, who will treasure it and enjoy it. So then I had to decide whether or not to continue MHing. Somehow, I couldn't see myself holidaying in any other way and so I decided that I would buy a van for myself, which was more manageable within my capabilities. I've put a deposit down on a Rapido 600FF which has the perfect layout for me, with lots of living space for during the day and a drop down bed for use at night. I'm delighted with the van and can't wait to pick it up in the next week.

It's daunting, I won't lie. I have many friends on this forum, for whom I'm grateful. I'm down for my first "off grid" rally in August and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there. But it won't be easy. Every journey will hold memories; every encounter will be tinged with sadness. But I think Techno would want me to carry on MHing, and I think he'll be watching over me as I take my first faltering steps as a solo traveller.

If we meet up, please remember I'm not Techno! I don't know anything technical; I can't do anything technical. I'll be asking YOU for advice this time round! Please ask me about him; don't feel like you have to avoid him as a subject of conversation. I'll be happy to talk about him and your memories of him; it may make me sad sometimes, but that's normal; it may make me cry often, but again that's normal. I'm taking one day at a time and that includes a new life on the road, travelling on my own. I'm happy in my own company, so I don't expect to be lonely but there will be times when I'm completely at sea, when something happens which I don't know how to deal with. So please be here on this forum, ready with answers, anecdotes and support when the proverbial hits the fan in my new van!!

I look forward to seeing you all on my travels. Thanks for reading.

hello and thanks for your update.

As I mentioned before, I was saddened and shocked to her of Techno passing.

Andy helped me and a lot of others with technical assistance without boundaries and in helpful layman’s terms. Even going to the extent of drawing detailed diagrams.

Thanks Jim for the lifetime

Wishing you the best for the future and if you need help with tyres, a/c or refrigeration, I might be able to help.

If you are venturing to Spain, we can always find a parking place on our drive for you .

Not much more I can say …..

Jacs good on you, I'm sure it will be strange but Motorhome Fun is definitely one big motorhome family and you are very much part of it, I'm sure there will be help whenever you need it.
Eddie and I no longer have our Hymer so sadly won't catch up but wish you well with your new Van it sounds lovely.

Good morning Yorkshirefreckles

We briefly met at a, I think New Years Eve, rally at Shrewsbury a good while back.

Hope you have many great journeys ahead.

I was struggling doing something on my Rapido a bit back.
Did a search on here and you can guess where it led me.
Yep a detailed post by Techno, he’s still helping out 👍

Thank you for the kind words and your lovely offers of support. I'd love to come back to Spain in the MH but I'm certainly not up for it yet. It may never happen. But rest assured, if I do ever venture your way, I'll be sure to get in touch. As for the technical support - we all know what MH fridges can be like! I'll keep you on speed dial 🤣🤣

Hi Jacs - great to see that you are getting a new motorhome and getting out and about. Andy will definitely approve 👍
We live in Portugal now so our paths may not cross but enjoy your travels and making new memories.
If you do make it across the Channel, there’s a space for you here too.

Thank you so much. As with Spain, I think Portugal might be for another time but I'll hold you to your offer if I do come down there 🤣🤣

Kerry says come & say hello at Drax

Thanks guys. Might cross your path at some point in the future too so keep an eye out 🤣🤣

Then I will graciously accept, with thanks on his behalf. I'll put the money in the charity pot at Drax
Good to see you have reconsidered , sometimes us solo travellers do need help and often a thank you is enough

Other times the currency is wine and beer :drinks:

Good luck , and be brave
