GoBox for Austria

I don’t want to doubt you, but can you provide evidence that for sub 7.5t but over 3.5t this is the case, it would be really helpful as at 5 tons I’ve danced round the roads in Slovenia without getting the Darsgo box for the motorways👍
I think the only way you can 'prove' it is to apply for Slovenian E-Vignette here.
Maybe go through the entire process, but don't actually pay up.

We are over 3.5t (but not by much, and we look like any other German MoHo with a 3.5t limit)

I filled in the night before.
Which I seem to remember is the earliest you can fill it in as you can only defer until the next day.
(Edit, you can now apply up to 30 days before)

I agree, it does now seem to exclude vehicles over 3.5t
However if I enter my vehicle as a Mercedes Sprinter, I get told it's a type '2B'

You'd think the wonderful well organised EU might be able to organise 1 box that covers the whole of the EU.
I'm sure that will happen soon, it's the obvious logical progression.
Rather than a box or stickers it's much easier to use ANPR

The Fulli tag already works in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
and Slovenia has gone full ANPR

The main issues are however that countries do not see the need to cooperate, when it comes to getting paid a local tax.
As it means they have to conform to a set of rules, they also have to pay a 3rd party to deal with the money.

The other big problem, other than long haul truckers, motor homers are one of the few regular international travellers on the roads, so it's not a vote winner

Technically not possible, because some systems, like Poland, use a GPS system to track a device in the vehicle, which can be an App on a smartphone, along its journey, includng many major roads in addition to M/ways. This eliminates the need for Gantries, ANPR cameras and any roadside infrastructure.

With the GPS system it would be possible to extend it to all road use, without any extra expenditure.
