Hello Funsters. We‘re enjoying our second trip in our 2007 Hymer van 572, and it’s getting a tad parky tonight. But we can’t work out how to get the heating going. The owners manual might as well be in Latin on this topic! I’ve got hot water by turning the Trumatic C EH dial (the left hand one) to double electric setting and turning the Trumatic C (the right hand one) to 60 degrees. I then turned up what is presumably the thermostat on the right hand dial to max (9) and sat here hopefully, but after an hour nothing is happening. Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong will be hugely appreciated - bbrrrrr!

60° is the hot water temperature I think you you need to turn the dial the other way.
There are 4 settings 40 & 60 hot water a flame which is heating and a flame + 60 which is heating and hot water.
If its still not working on electric assuming you have mains connected to the van try it on gas. The electric elements failing is quite common.

Thank you Lenny. If I’m reading this right, then, the flame doesn’t mean gas, but heating with electricity? I don’t really want to use the gas at the moment as it’s a bit low. I’ve now turned the dial the other way as you suggest, to flame with two wiggly lines next to it. I hope to be able to report warmth shortly 🙂

Hesitate to suggest it - but you have selected heating on the mains panel too haven’t you ( assuming that’s how your system works). I made that mistake first time out.

I don’t know the answer to that Ed, except it’s probably ‘no’ as I’ve just been messing about with the two dials. is the main panel the one adjacent which shows battery levels, water levels and 12v on/off?

Sorry might be a red herring as I have a different system on my Peugot PVC, the mains/12v control panel with hot water and heating on/off is remote from my truma panel, so initially I tried to use just the truma control.

The right hand know is on gas hot water I'm not sure but I think you need that set to 0 if you only want it to run on electric.
I've need had a van with electric on the Truma mine have all been gas only.

Thanks to all for replies. Heart warming, even if the rest of us is cold. First thing tomorrow we’ll get a little fan heater to be going on with 👍🏻

If you want to heat the motorhome up quickly set the left hand one to flame and two wiggles (gas and electric 2kw). When the motorhome is warm turn it to either one wiggle or two wiggles (2kw or 1kw). If you use just electric it will take ages to warm up. The right hand one should be set to flame and 60 degrees (Heating and 60 degrees water).

The OP posted that he/she didn't want to use gas as they are very low.......hence the request for advice on 240v heating.

At this stage, finding gas would be my next priority, especially if using refillable cylinders.

Penk. Are you any further forward with 240v heating yet?
Are your gas cylinders refillable?
If yes, have a look at ..............

Good luck,

Jock. :)

Thanks for the continuing help, everyone 👍🏻. We left the electric heating on all night - not a jot of warmth, and no fan, so it’s obviously poorly. Odd, as it had all passed a hab check with flying colours on Monday.

We’ll try it for a bit with gas in a moment just to see if that part’s working, and get a top-up asap. Had a surprisingly good sleep in our overcoats though 😊. Penny

Worth taking the cover off where the PCB is on the heater and taking the connectors off and cleaning with switch cleaner, if you don't have any just push the connectors off and on a few times.
They used to be problematical on the C6002 heaters.

You have it set on dual power (gas and electric), and water heated to 60⁰. The left dial controls the power, so turn it anti clockwise to the 2 wavy lines if on ehu. Turn the right outside dial all the way clockwise, to the hot water and heating symbols (bit confusing, but the flame represents heating not gas on this side). Then set the inside dial to the number you require (mine only goes to 5 but doesn't count in 2's).
I find that when it's cold electricity doesn't warm up fast enough and I use the gas as well (the setting you have on the left)

You'll hear the fan kick in like a jet aeroplane on gas, it just hums along very quietly on electricity alone.

Deep joy!! Gas on, fan blowing, lovely hot air blasting out everywhere. So I guess it’s the electric element that’s up the creek, yes? thank you all once again 😊🥳
!
Your element is probably ok, they're just not very efficient. I wouldn't bother changing it, just make sure you have enough gas.

Thought: if the electric element were heating (albeit feebly) wouldn’t the fan blow? We had no fan at all despite leaving the electric heating on all night. It started within minutes, however, with the gas on.

I think it cuts in when the element reaches a certain temperature, which takes ages. That's why I wouldn't bother replacing the element, even if it is kapoot. You'll still end up using gas.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will come along soon and say their heating is brilliant on just electric 😉

60 water too hot, 40 water not hot enough! Just add cold to 60 but the heat of the water is a bit alarming.

Minxy put this helpful diagram in Resources ages ago. We found it really useful and even printed it off. The Truma manual isn’t that helpful as it uses the same flame symbol for different things.

If it is the unit I think it is then the electric element is only for heating the water not the air. To heat the air you need to use gas. to get both you need to turn the knob full clockwise.

If you have had hot water using electric only then your element is fine.

Possibly, I'm not sure but if it's just a Truma C rather than a CE it won't have an electric option.
