Germanys September Wanders (8 Viewers)

I know a few funsters are heading Germany direction in September us included.
We have a sort of plan see below.
First stop is Bourtange just on the NL border as I want to visit the fort. Any resemblance to where we end up after that may be accidental.
At the moment the weather forecast is favourable for the North.
If my tec works ok I will post the odd snippet of where we end up if I can manage.
Any ideas of places worth a look are welcome we will run out of time as normal though. We just have a bit over two weeks.
What are other folks plans?

Cycle tour of Britain is near us so will try and avoid that but we have all day anyway.
We have history of getting caught with cycle races, last one was in Luxemburg

The sands are that clean and light that they whistle as you walk on it, carry on to Peenemunde and the old Baltic Hansa Towns and drop back down via the German Lake District, Mecklenburg on to Dresden

You could easily spend a couple of weeks on Rugen

We went the first time for a couple of days and stayed 10 days, and then went back a couple of years later and spent a couple of weeks

We still never managed to get around to seeing Prora!
Which I understand after a gap of just 85 years, is now back under construction.
(I guess a half built structure was not really good for the local economy and rather than knock it all down they have decided to finish it off)

Seems a lot of sites are busier than we have experienced in the past in September
Not sure if it's the area or the weather but a few sites have been fully booked for the weekend and beyond
Weather is to hot for driving far anyway so we are going to chill where we are till Sunday

Made it to the biggest hill in the area. 6 meters above sea-level.
Still on the site next to Bourtange excellent place to chill.

Anyone like to explain Dutch cycle route numbering ?

You need to download an app called 'Fietsknoop'
(Also available online)

It will open a cycle map of where you are, you select where you want to go,
and then you get a list of what appear to be random numbers.
To get from A to B you just follow the list of numbers.

Every intersection in the country has an intersection number.
Most intersections have a signpost or a milestone (called a Knoopputen) with directions for the next intersection numbers.

(If you look at the bar bag of the long distance tourers they will have list of numbers)

If you open the app at each intersection you can see where you are and where you need to go.
It's a brilliant (if slightly over complicated) system that will get you all over the Netherlands, Belgium and western Germany.

I was seeing the intersection numbers with the direct arrows and thinking it was a route number. .
We got where we were going and back ok anyway.

Near Bremerhaven.
Not sure it's my kind of area ? It's all very flat. Good for the mpg. And e bike range though.
I had planned to get the sunset but some clouds have dashed that idea tonight will try again tomorrow.

Pictures will have to wait internet connection is proving tricky.
Luneburg will worth a visit.
View from top of water tower worth the entry but should have taken the lift.
Old town covers a fairly big area nice to wander around a bit like York.
Thinking we will head in again tomorrow.

Made it to Bad Benthein.
Working our way towards home.
Anything I said about getting past Hamburg OK going east bit us on the backside coming west
Nothing individually was a big issue but several closed exits, contraflow and a artic break-down on a slip road made for slow progress.
Anyway fed and watered and settled here for a couple of nights.
Castle etc tomorrow can't be in Germany without castle.

Edam / Volendam planned for the last few days before home.
Lots of fish restaurants

If you go into the local Tourist Information office, pick up the (usually free) local cycle map.
It will contain all the local intersection numbers.
(called Knooppunt in NL or Knotenpunkt in DE)

Just follow the (apparently random) numbers!

I find it easiest to simply write down a vertical list of all the numbers.
You will find some are covered by vegetation, some are missing, and some you will cycle past without seeing, because for some weird reason they only seem to be visible if you are going the other way!

If you come across a number not on your list, stop, check the map, find out where you went wrong.
