Hi there,

have imported a German Hymer to UK and I'm trying to get gas working - and it's a lot more complicated than I thought!!

I have
- 10mm pipe terminating with the fitting shown
- an orange hose going to the regulator
- the regulator (Gok 01 285 00) https://www.svb24.com/en/gok-caravan-gas-pressure-regulator-30-mbar-without-pressure-gauge.html
- and this kit to connect to my Flowgas Patio Gas cyclinder (plan to go to Safefill eventually) Amazon product ASIN B079X2257P
But obviously the German fitting on the regulator won't fit my pigtail hose.

So I have been looking for either an adapter - or it might be easier to change the regulator too but in which case, what hose do I need to connect my pipe terminator to the new regulator? Current organge hose looks like it has a 12mm connector - but not sure again whether this is a German fitting.

Any advice and suggestions would be much appreciated. Have spoken to Huddersfield Gas and they said they couldn't advise...

Pictures attached.

Many thanks!

Mike

I have a Globecar, so German van, and it came from the factory with a German regulator / pigtail.
i bought a bulkhead mounted UK regulator From Gasit made by Cavagna (recommended as more durable / less likely to block than Truma ones)
the regulator fitted directly to the factory gas pipe
they do straight and 90 degree ones as well.. I carry A spare in the van in case it ever got blocked and needed to swap out
and i added a braided hose https://www.gasit.co.uk/0-75mtr-fully-stainless-steel-pigtail-21-8-l/h-x-w20.html

Thanks everyone for your help. It has certainly been an eye-opener for me. Who knew gas could be so complicated!

I've spoken to Charles at Alugas 2000 and he has been most helpful and has all of the parts I need.

It seems to be more of a connection job than a fitting job so will try and do myself.

Just a bit annoying that Hymer fit a "floating" regulator rather than a bulkhead mounted one on this vehicle as standard. Would have expected better as everything else it top-end.

Autogas 2000 !
That’s me you have been speaking too 👍

My german van from 1988 that I bought in germany in 2006 didn't have pipe ends like that one on the right 🤔

No but the regulator that the original poster has shown is a KLF fitting so I was just trying to illustrate the difference 👍
Trouble is they fit but Leak 😥

The bulkhead regulator is an option on Hymers, Carthago's and most German vans normally the dual changeover version complete Duo Remote C. With that option you would still have the German connection pigtales if you bought the van in Germany or Belgium..

Had 3 Hymers we have imported, never caused us any problems as we have always had refillable bottles which use the German connector.

Its only Brit vans and few others that fit bulkhead regulators as standard.

I'm little confused also ...

I have a 5kg German Gas bottle with a regulator (Gok 01 285 00).

I currently have about 4kg of Gas left in the bottle. Gas is only used for the hob and oven so fairly low consumption.

I don't think it worth putting is a dual bottle Gaslow system but maybe one 6kg refillable should be sufficient which I can keep topped up as and when by looking at the gauge.

What do I need to connect the existing regulator to a Gaslow or Safefill bottle. Is there some sort of adaptor needed or will the regulator fit a refillable in the same way it's attached to the German cylinder?

A Gaslow bottle will be the same.
Basildog can confirm.
Excellent, I thought it was the same but best to check - my last Gaslow bottles must have had adaptors to fit pigtails with standard Calor fittings as I could swap between the Calor and Gaslow bottles easily.

I am going to order a Gaslow bottle from Basildog at Autogas.

Come on pay attention at the back please 😂
The German cylinder / regulator are G12 KLF which is not compatible with the Gaslow / Gas It refillable cylinders which are a Shell / Butane / 109 union / G3 .
We do however keep adapters to convert either to KLF or From KLF 👍
Just to confuse everyone the threads are actually identical 21.8 LH 🤬😂👍

Are the Galow and the Alugas different?

That depends 🤔
So sometimes we get Alugas with a blue tap they are German KLF , sometimes we get Alugas with a yellow tap , they are Shell G3 .
Gaslow are always Shell or G3 in the UK but would be KLF G12 if bought in Germany .

Interesting I changed my 10 year old Alugas last year, old ones had a brass tap, new ones a blue tap, same pigtail fitted.

Yes the older brass type Alugas were all KLF , but as you say the newer Rotarex multivalve cylinder has a blue tap when it’s KLF 👍
