Genou blessé: my French A&E experience

thidwick - wishing you a speedy recovery!

I think (don’t know for certain) the NHS is perfectly well structured and fit for purpose, it’s just not being used for what it is intended to be used for. Sadly the NHS is just a dumping ground for all cases other services can’t manage.

Thinking of one aspect of social care, the elderly, if we had properly funded social care and all the ‘old’ people where efficiently treated, processed and returned to their ‘normal’ setting with appropriate support, then I’m relatively confident that the NHS would be in a much better place.

The other alternative is a rampant pandemic which kills off all the old people. (Actually we tried that and that didn’t work either). 🤣

Sadly we probably need 10p on basic rate tax and a new rate of 60-65% at the top of the income tax scale. Yes that level of tax will undoubtedly drive some talent out of the UK, but we need lots of investment and quickly. Sadly no one can afford this level of tax due to inflationary pressures on the economy… oh wait, the economy, by one of its key measures is very healthy, we have loads of job vacancies so we can drive GDP and solve the problem that way… hang on, we have too few workers. We have solved that for centuries through migrant workers… bugger, we don’t want migrant workers taking our jobs… Is it just me, or is it all a frigging mess?
