Been caravanning for years but now ordered my first motorhome
Hi do most MH use generators when not on EHU or are they frowned upon

Surely 2 totally different environments... at a motor sport event you expect to hear high reving noisy engines.. on a rally field you don't..
I guess it depends on what the rules etc say or if it’s against the law, expect and what actually happens are 2 different things. Best to read the small print

I'm aware that motorsport and rallies are two different environments at motorsport camping you are told if you can use them or not normally they have to be turned off at 10.0 pm but I have never been to any kind of rally that's why I asked the question as I would like to know what the protocol is at rallies

I have been in holland 1 week and managed on 6amp electric better than none but did 1 night at blauwhuis autocross circuit and stayed on track hundreds of genis going but dead on midnight has rules said all genis stopped so silence till race prep started at 8 and a good nights sleep by all every one can not work or want to by solar.

We were at Matley Wood in the New Forest two weeks ago and a tugger had a large Honda generator that he used twice a day, every day 10-12 and 4 - 6. Annoying but within the rules. However he placed it quite away behind his caravan to reduce the sound for him but increasing it for the rest of us.

Not a good idea if you are arriving after your neighbours, as you will probably be asked once politely to turn it off if its running at night, before risking a rapid cooling of relationships with corresponding consequences if you continue annoying everyone after midnight.
If, however, you have arrived first in an empty area and there is loads of space away from you, and have pitched up and have the genny in full view, then I'd say fair enough and if it worried me I wouldn't pitch near you.

Can anyone hear mine right now????? There you go, not causing you or my neighbour any problems is it?
Actually we do some times use our genny, other names are available, we need to charge our eBike batteries, well that was last year, now we have increased Solar and Batteries, just how cool are we....Perhaps thats why you cannot hear ours.....

The silent but expensive alternative is an Efoy Fuel Cell. Probably not the answer for most people but a lot friendlier than a petrol generator.

Currently at Rutland Water and haven’t seen any sun for 2 days but my Efoy has been ticking away for about 10 hours a day replacing the 50Ah I regularly use (medical equipment). Only need 1x100Ah LiFePO4 battery. A bigger battery bank and lots of solar would be cheaper but heavier. Also I don’t have to worry about sunshine or parking away from shadows and trees.

Had we been able to get an EHU it would have cost an extra £5 per day, whereas the Efoy fuel I am using costs about £3.40 per day. We will also be using a bit more lpg. The disadvantage of the Efoy lies in the initial purchase price not the daily running costs.
