I have made sure that we avoid that scenario Lenny. But I'm going to take my UK sticker off fed up with people in Spain including expats asking where we are from.
Accept your point about "united" but "great " is simply to distinguish from little Britain ie Brittany and refers only to the main island and so excludes northern IrelandI don't think Blighty is "Great" and I really don't think the UK is "United" so I've got "Portugal" on the back of my van...

The change from GB to UK was at the request of the UK government so please no (more) Euro bashing...Hi team, our van registration plate is simply just that. Does anyone have a definitive answer to the question…..
Do I need a GB sticker or UK sticker displayed on the back of the van for driving in France?
I have a feeling there will be a few different answers…….

Of course they will ... they're still trying to sell of the old stock to the unwary! That’s the confusion, some websites including Amazon are still saying GB sticker
Eh? I wasn’t bashing anyone…… just wanting to display the correct stickerThe change from GB to UK was at the request of the UK government so please no (more) Euro bashing...
To apease NI as GB does not include them. The change from GB to UK was at the request of the UK government so please no (more) Euro bashing...
We're glad to have youI have a GB stuck on my skoda, on my Kangoo, and on my moho...I'm French registered... I live next to the gendarmerie
Do you think I'm going to be in trouble?
I think in some languages the translation is grossen Bretagne!Accept your point about "united" but "great " is simply to distinguish from little Britain ie Brittany and refers only to the main island and so excludes northern Ireland
I have UK on front and rear number plate plus GB oval and UK oval stickers. I used to have GB on the front as well so recognisable from both ends.
As your vehicle is presumably registered in Portugal it is correct that you display that as the stickers don't relate to the nationality of the people.
Just got the world’s smallest UK stickers on the number plates front and back,2k miles nobody gives a Barry White.
Chockswahay I'm not sure you are taking this thread seriously
We sometimes see the SCO on vehicles for folk from our neck of the woods.
Occasionally ENG but never seen a Welsh one.
I know they are all just badges with no legal meaning.
I might even stick an ÉCOSSE sticker on the back too so that no one confuses us with being from Tenerife
You shouldn’t be allowed out the country with a Stoke City sticker on your van…….oh actually second thoughts, we should let you out but refuse you back in!!!!!We have two GB s one UK one Staffordshire and one Stoke city on ours.
Nothing to do with that. United Kingdom of Great Britain and Notheren Ireland is the official name of the country. It’s the last bit that caused the change.I don't think Blighty is "Great" and I really don't think the UK is "United" so I've got "Portugal" on the back of my van...

There already have been numerous diverse opinions in previous threads on this subject if you do a Search.
We've seen several UK cars in France without any country identifiers; I'm curious what the consequences are of not displaying one (I'm not proposing to take mine off).
UK is the legal one now. I have both on my van as I bought it just before the change over. (Although looking below I shouldn't have )
From https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/flags-symbols-and-identifiers
Driving outside the UK
If your number plate includes the UK identifier with the Union flag (also known as the Union Jack), you do not need a UK sticker.
However, you will need to display a UK sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:
a GB identifier with the Union flag
a Euro symbol
a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
numbers and letters only - no flag or identifier
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a UK sticker no matter what is on your number plate.
If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it before driving outside the UK.

I don't have a diverse opinion nor stress over it. I just bought one, peeled off the backing and stuck it on. Fortunately I have the skills to do that.Don't see why there are any diverse opinions. It's quite straightforward and simple. See post #7.
Quite agree. I assume that (understandably) many people aren't internet competent beyond basic email and social media message boards. What's more odd is that people post questions on here rather than simply type the question into Google .
In one of the other threads on the same subject many posts were saying the same. At Newhaven recently I noticed that around 1 in 3 of the departing Brit vehicles didn't have a UK sticker.I think chances of being stopped for not having one are minimal. Maybe if you were doing something else more seriously wrong the. Thy might bring that up also.
