Thinking of getting a 2x 11kg Gaslow system in my new van and have been advised to get 1x 11kg Gaslow with a Calor 6kg bottle to cover against not finding any LPG. Good advice? Any opinions welcome being new top all this.

Just don't let them both get to empty,we have two 11kg and always fill up when one empties, travelled both in UK and Europe, never had to travel out of our way to fill up yet, although we try to avoid the oily French gas.

What's the problem with French gas? How is it oily?

The simplest (and cheapest) refillable option is a pair of Safefill bottles. See LPG shop on line for the kit. They are also very light if you are tight on payload.
The 10kg bottles hold 19litres and last us about two weeks so when one is empty we have two weeks to find a refill.

I would jump straight in with the 2x11kg refillables (I did) as it’s not been an issue finding Autogas locations on our travels in the U.K. - and even less of an issue abroad.

BTW locating 6kg Calor propane might be more difficult as renters are swapping from the shortly to be discontinued 3.9kg, and they are often in very short supply.

I’d just go for the refillables. We have gaslow. Remember no need to wait until cylinder is empty, just fillup when passing an lpg outlet. Use the websites to find them. As I have said elsewhere, we do have an lpg garage near by but our last fill was in Scotland.

I have 2x11kg alugas and my last fill up was my biggest ever at 24L. Normally fill up around the half way ie one empty cylinder 22L or less.
I never bother about the price as a few cents/pence difference is insignificant compared to the cost of diesel.

I have 1 X 11kg and a 6kg Calor for emergencies. Reason being - I already had the Calor and Gaslow bottles aren't heap. Can't see the logic in buying 2 when they are refillable. I've had to dip into the Calor just once in 2 years for 1 day only. Done 20,000 miles travelling in that time.

Yes, we have exactly the same, and with the same rational. It works well for us.

We have a similar set-up and only once had to decide whether to dip into the Calor/That was in the Pyrenees where there is no LPG(GPL) except down in the valleys. We had to descend to change valleys so did a 25km detour for Lpg.

Not bad in 10 years and 30.000 miles.

France is getting more difficult as stations change to 24/7 and take out lpg pumps.

All LPG has some oily residue in it French gas appears to be worst than most. I have known several people who had fridge problems after filling with French gas.
This thread prompted me to check my gas filters. One was clean & bone dry the other one had 5 or 6 mm of oil in the bottom & the filter cartridge was oily. Fairly certain the oily one was on the cylinder that had been filled with French gas last year.

We have the Gaslow system, 2x11kg tanks, been full-timing for 3 years, never had an issue finding or buying gas to refill them in the 15 countries we have visited.

As someone said, mylpg.eu App is your friend.

Considering a removeable refillable bottle(s) so I can just take that to a filling station if we are pitched up somewhere.

Are garages sniffy about that? If not, which is the most recommended system?

Thanks.
