Gas supplies

I had to laugh at chap on telly extolling ground source for his home heating, said it cut his heating bills.

Then they said it cost him £15,000, that's an awful lot of gas.

We replaced our 25 year old oil boiler for a new oil condensing boiler, this cut our oil consumption by 30%. It cost us £2500 all in fitted. We checked out wood chip boiler, we got 3 quotes, £12000, £14000 and £16000. As we spend around £300 pa for oil, we decided against the wood chip.

If we are to start heating homes en masse by taking it from our surroundings, using heat pumps, is it not likely to reduce the temperature outside?

How will this apply to future Motorhomes? Will we need to carry 100s of metres of hose and dig a trench at each stop over? 😀

Because we (some of us) vote for them
The problem with that is when you vote in this country you only get to choose the least moronic, not the cleverest

One thing I used to tell my customers when they asked about economy. "Be careful what you do, you can spend a fortune saving money if you're not careful".

Why aren't New builds orientated as near as possible so that solar panels can be installed during the build? Surely the cost would be unnoticeable and the benefits substantial. Living in the South we hardly need our boiler from March until September getting all our not water from our immersion heater fed by our solar panels. Also pretty much self sufficient for cooking and other electrical requirements during daylight hours.

It can’t be that hard to design the house so that they have a south facing roof to get maximum use of the sun.

Really can't work out why it's not compulsory on new builds
I like all the new environmental changes that are being introduced except any that may impact on me :wasntme:

All new builds have solar to improve the epc. Some more than the others. Depends on planing and builder. Yes they get fitted during the build but, the only saving is the Scafold. I still want to be paid to do them and the materials still cost. DNO application still needs to be made and you give the builder the hand over pack. Some can’t be south orientated due to various planing hiccups, neighbours etc.

I think the same people making these decisions are the same ones that thought up smart motorways!

But if it’s solar hot water there would be a saving on a hot water cylinder as they are not taking out a perfectly good one to replace with a new one. Also the plumber would leave the tails in position to connect to for less money on a price then in an occupied house.
