Gas stations or the lack of!

Electric motorhomes may well be the future in a global sense but for most of us on here they won’t be. I expect most of us will be OK with diesel engines, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Nick and I end up buying another brand new one in a couple of years , I can hear that “proper automatic” calling him! Mind you I don’t really like the Comformatic, I prefer a manual.

As for LPG, we can always find a garage, the next challenge is which technique will work. Some really do have a mind of their own. Sometimes I feel like the LPG whisperer at the Podimore cross one on the A303 at Ilchester.

People who don't plan or those that drive until they fall asleep?
So what you're saying is when battery cars are the only option we will have to plan our journeys much more than now?
Maybe you call that progress. I don't. I actually have no idea how much diesel is in my pickup right now. What's more I don't need to know. If it's empty i'll fill it up next time I go out in about two or three minutes. Even if there is already someone using the pump they'll only be a couple of minutes. On battery cars the person already using the charger could be there hours.
Why would you fall asleep? Unless it's waiting for the charger to become available.

Soon after starting out I bought a Safefill bottle and kept my Calorlite for emergencies. Then a few years back I chucked out the Calor for a single Gaslow with external filler, keeping the Safefill as my standby. Apart from wanting to be fully refillable I was also a bit wary as I'd been prevented from refilling the safefill a few times abroad. The safefill still has the gas in it from that switch, I have never had to use it as it's so easy to keep the Gaslow filled.
And round here (in Bath) we are in a desert as far as LPG supply is concerned too....

It’s clear from your posts that it’s not for you in it’s current form. I 100% respect that position
Progress in all it’s forms, starts with a small step
I imagine the move from horses 120 or so years ago met with criticism and justifiable suspicion ( I imagine there were 20 Farriers in Keighley but no Chemists selling gasoline in 1900)

Hope it works out for all of us

You are quite correct EV as a stand alone vehicle would not work for me. Yet.
I also am one of the people who enjoys cars, motorbikes etc for more than just their ability to transport me around. I just cannot see, at least for me, any enjoyment of the vehicle itself when it becomes a battery car. I will hopefully own an older motorcycle for my enjoyment and have a battery car for just getting about. I feel that buying, owning a battery vehicle will be akin to buying a new fridge, washing machine etc.

You might be interested in Autocar's summary of what they refer to as a sportscar.

Whirring silently along isn’t my idea of a sports car. It doesn’t matter how fast it will go it’s just boring. As I said earlier akin to a fridge or washing machine.

About fifty years time maybe..
I suspect that is more like 15 years.

25 years from now Petrol and Diesel will be as hard to obtain as LPG is today.
Limited outlets, main roads only, and probably not within town centers.

The primary users of Diesel and petrol will be commercial vehicles and 'classic cars'.
Both of which will be limited on where they can go (and at what time of day)

I've been a petrolhead from when I was given my first motorbike aged 12. I've built them, rebuilt them, tuned them, moved onto cars (eventually), and continued along the same path. I've enjoyed the sound of them, the performance, and speed. I could only dream of the performance potential of a modern electric vehicle. But times are changing rapidly and will continue to do so. The next ten years will see EVs become mainstream and most drivers vehicle of choice. People will rapidly come to enjoy the lack of fumes and noise. And see Brains post.

I’m not saying battery cars are not the future. To me it’s not a particularly nice future re the vehicles. I’ve no doubt some will find them exiting. I’m just not one of them. I will probably have to buy one eventually but as I said earlier I’ll have as much interest in it as I have in the washing machine. It will become just another electrical appliance.

Thats all i want a car for is to get A to B,
that's where it all went wrong allowing people with no interest in vehicles to be allowed to use them along with company reps.

Some of us don't fall asleep & are still going after 20 hours. we used to have jobs that required it so driving is a pleasure you cannot get enough of.
that it’s not for you in it’s current form.
It wouldn't be for me in any form

maybe in the UK .here we don't have enough electric in summer to run houses.
will be as hard to obtain as LPG is today.
Here they are installing lpg pumps everywhere. Over the last 7 years I have gone from scratching my head to which one of 2 ,miles apart yo use. to having a choice of 7 or 8 new ones. It wasn't long ago we used to have to drive to Murcia city to get lpg & next one was in Andalucia.
and probably not within town centers.
The only one we ever had in side the town perimeter was asked to close down 18 years ago. They have always had a no dangerous fluids policy since I have lived here within the town boundaries.
