Hi,
When I have previously travelled to Europe for long periods of time I have carried spare propane bottles.

2 x 6kg Gas It bottles fitted yesterday with an internal filler.

My question is am I likely to encounter any difficulties when topping up the bottles in UK and Europe.

We are off to Spain, Portugal and possibly Morocco in November for a 4 month trip ( I am aware of the issues in Morocco)

PS I have purchased the LPG adapters for Europe.

Thanks Tim

Just make sure whoever fitted it has checked every gas tight seal, including the ones coming out of the gasit bottle itself, as both my inlet/outlet pipes were leaking out of the bottle :Eeek:

I had to travel 30 miles to the nearest LPG fill up point today. Joys of living in Pembrokeshire. The staff at the garage were not sure how to operate the LPG pump?

Both 6kg bottles were empty so I had a go. The pump stopped on 24 litres. Didn’t know how many litres they should take. One bottle gauge showed as full and other empty.
Rang a gas supplier and was informed if you have a 6kg bottle then it should take 12 litres. Good news as the amount was exact with 24 litres.
A member of staff approached me and asked how far I could travel on two full bottles?mmmmm

Anyhow, went home and checked all connections with an aerosol gas leak checker. Both gauges now reading full. All good. Let the fun begin!

Thanks again for your advice. May change the filler point in the future but let’s see how many challenges I have first.

Out of interest where in Pembrokeshire?

Going there in a couple of weeks.

There are 2 sizes of filler point, the large round one and a smaller square one, the smaller one is much cheaper and easier to fit.
For DIY I found the round one easy to fit as..... cutting a square hole 'aint quite so straightforward with my available tools.

It's actually round :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

LOL! ........Silly me, I should have known that the 'square one' was round. :giggler:

The hole you cut is round. The square bit is on the outside

Does anyone know where I can get grey filler point box for lpg. Getting system fitted next month and want to use same colour fittings as the rest of our van.
They are either black or white so whichever you go for you'd have to spray it to match if you are really bothered.

On the smaller one don't yo need to screw the UK bayonet adaptor in to fill in UK?
Yes but the advantage is that it needs a much smaller ROUND hole ( :giggle: ) and as it isn't so deep as the larger one (where you stick the nozzle inside) you have more options on where to fit it.

There are AFAIK 3 main types of filler:

A 'flush' square one (top left) with a choice of a straight rear connection or an angled one with removable bayonet (only the straight one is shown in the photo). To fill you'd open the flush cover flap and screw in the relevant bayonet when you need it. You could mount this inside if you wanted and would need a straight or angled bracket (straight one shown in centre of picture).

A 'protruding' square one (top right) with a straight or angled rear connection, which incorporate a fixed bayonet that sticks out and you'd use a 'box' cover (shown bottom left) with it; these are generally used when mounting under the vehicle rather than through the side/panels. You usually need either a straight or angle bracket to mount it.

Lastly there are the large round ones (bottom right) with the bayonet inside, which also come in straight or angled rear connections. If mounting internally you'd need a bracket (none shown).

There are only a few LPG garages I know of in Pembrokeshire and shown on the app.

The garage I used was in Pelcomb between Haverfordwest and Newgale. Lovely staff but what else do you expect in Pembrokeshire?

I've been refused in Portugal, told they don't fill bottles, I pointed at the external filler and told them it is a tank & got filled. Wouldn't have got away with it with an internal filler.
