We are planning a four week trip to France in September. We have 2 x 11kg gas bottles and I'm just wondering whether this will see us through the trip, or whether we need to be thinking about a refillable solution. We think we'll be using the fridge on gas quite a bit more. Advice from your experiences please. Many thanks.

In the winter of 2020 - 2021, we were getting through an 11kg bottle of Flo gas every 3 weeks. That was gas all the way with no electric except when we needed to top up the batts, and we are very frugal users.👍

I have just returned from a 4-week break in France with a 7.5kg and a 10Kg Safefill bottle (s), neither were full when we left the UK and neither are yet anywhere near empty!!! Used mainly elec hook-up for fridge, no heating, little in the way of hot water (used sites) but lots of use with BBQ. Hope that helps.

I am in the same position. Does 8 weeks include two people showering in the van each day or do you use site facilities?
Two of us, we don’t shower every day but hot water on for about 2 hrs AM.
Otherwise it’s fridge (no freezer) cooking-evening & hot drinks.
That is thru good weather, only on hook-up in colder seasons.

Just back after a month in France. 13 off grid, 17 on sites. Large fridge/freezer, no gas BBQ. Inverter fitted, so travel kettle for brews plus microwave for some meals so hob not used every day. Only ate out about three times. Heating on one morning after a chilly night otherwise only hot water for a couple of hours a day. Used about 7-8Kg gas in total. Refillable is the way to go as the gas is so much cheaper, about a quarter of Calor prices.

I am using the Cadac bbq gas power pack, it’s really quite neat and easy to set up. It takes 3 canisters - so far so good. Only cooked for a total of 90 minutes so can’t give an idea how long they last.

Just for interest, I have had 2 x 6kg Gaslow bottles fitted and they are the new type. I had problems with gas flow and had the regulator replaced, now I have to have both bottles FULLY open or, if on one bottle I get the occasional flow problem returning. With both bottles fully open no problems

I’ve got the 2 x 11kgs with automatic changeover, so always open both bottles in case they need to changeover. (y)
