Garlic

There have been documentaries on Chinese garlic. They reportedly use prison labour to peel a lot of the garlic under ... pretty dodgy conditions.

There is a Netflix documentary called, I think, "Garlic Breath", which also covered this. Prisoners have their nails ruined, then use their teeth to peel garlic and so on. Standards of hygiene clearly questionable.

Key point from all the above: don't buy peeled garlic.

Went into a small supermarket in Carmona today I checked the garlic "produce of Spain"

Garlic is a flavour enhancer . Present in lots of food that people , who hate garlic , love
A friend who is garlic intolerant, told me that as garlic has anti bacterial properties, it is often added not just for taste but to help preserve whatever it is added to.

If you have a couple of square yards of soil, garlic is one of the easiest things to grow your own, stick a few cloves in now and in June you will have your own grown garlic.

Garlic is the food of the devil as far as I am concerned. These people who consume platefuls of garlic bread with a meal and stink for a week after.

We cook with garlic most days. I think it's likely all ready meals pub food etc will contain the cheapest possible ingredients. Odd that someone from a country wanting to open our market to foods that don't meet our standards is complaining about Chinese ingredients!

I was just looking for this, is it part of a series called Rotten about the food industry? If so I'm just watching episode one which is about Avocado, quite interesting, apparently using so much water that there are water shortages for locals.
